You know, I had a MC accident on April 14, Had the X'rays and saw an orthopedist on April 15. I asked that day if he would do a MRI because my knee was bent up under the bike. No No Not necessary i was told. Five weeks latter after complaining about still being in pain after the Fibula fracture has healed up nice I had the MRI yesterday (i insisted)   A hour ago the doctor calls and say's the original X-ray missed a Plateau blah blah blah fracture of the Tibia in the knee joint and a torn ACL. It was all I could do not to be reduced to profanity on the phone.   I did say I felt he had been discounting my requests for the MRI and the Pain I said I was in, but it is what it is. In the long run it all comes out to the same thing any way. I just need to get on the bike and go for a ride!

Are they putting you in a full leg cast finally or just the same old crutches?

That sucks and I'd guess that your insurance company (or just the health insurance industry in general) is as much to blame as your doctor because they discourage MRI's because they are very expensive, especially when compared to simple x-rays.  I'm actually having an MRI tomorrow afternoon on my back because I've been being treated for 6 weeks now without improvement...and now they are finally taking an MRI.  I'm told my MRI, if I had to pay for it, would be close to $1000.  I feel for you and hope you get to feeling better soon.

I hope they can do something about the pain, fracture & torn ligament. Hopefully they've been mending on their own, but the ligament might need extra help. Sorry to hear this, it's probably no comfort to know that the weather has been lousy all week. Irritating they didn't check you out when you first asked, and you were certainly more polite than I would have been in similar circumstances. Heal as quick as you can, Bonzo.

I will see the Dr. on Tuesday.  If I need anything else done I am going elsewhere.  I am going to get copies of all the films and get a second opinion anyway. I have good insurance and if there was a problem all I had to do was call the a rep. My knee was as big as a cantaloupe and he said the fracture was healed? Oh well, Live and learn. Thanks for the thoughts!

Sorry to hear that.
I had the opposite situation.  When I broke a bone in my hand, the X-Ray showed it clearly enough for me to see it from across the room, but the idiot doctor couldn't see it.  He had a new MRI machine, so he put me in it to check.  It showed some pretty pictures of what was already obvious.
Not sure why my guy was so trigger happy on the MRI and yours was so resistant, probably how they interact with insurance payouts.
I learned that a good doc you can trust to be competent is critical.  Another doc might have seen your other fracture in the x-ray.

When my daughter had cancer and I went out of network and payed out of pocket,  the bills were ridiculous. I asked them all what the bottom line price was. Most were very good, I tell you what though, Pathologist, them boys make some money!
