I do not like to agree with the NRA but the following statement I concur with wholeheartedly: Todd Vandermyde, the Illinois lobbyist for the National Rifle Association, said neither the media nor the general public has right to information on gun owners and suggested lawmakers should not even have required FOID cards.

What's the big deal? Lots of info, like driver's license and property tax records are public. You got something to hide?

Wayne, when I was a city councilman, the local newspaper published my name along with other elected officials as holders of CCW permits. In my case, my name and address was listed in the phone book. This could've easily have given someone the opportunity to break into my house looking for firearms or, worse, carrying a grudge because of a decision that I had made. True, someone would have to be a little off in their thinking knowing that CCW holders probably have some shooting skills. IMHO, that is different than other public records. Today, in Indiana, this won't happen as the legislature thinks as I do. As an afterthought, the instigator of this publishing of CCW holders was a lady from Baltimore who was the new publishing editor. She left shortly after that and went back to Baltimore. This newspaper, the 'News Sentinel' was, and still is, a very conservative newspaper. Wayne

Or even armed, or not, thieves being able to target homes that are highly unlikely to have firearms.

OTOH, does this argument not play into the hands of gun control advocates, for whom one of the prime arguments is that private guns stolen are a prime source of guns for the criminal element? Could it also be said that if you are not on the list, it's a much safer bet to hit that house? Cheers.

I would imagine that stolen vehicles are used in many crimes too, and they are readily available on the streets.
A safe that weighs about 500 pounds and anchored to the floor would've taken some time and much noise to steal. I can't speak for others though.

Why yes, I do. A couple of them as a matter of fact. That is why I have a CCL. 'Nuff said Fred.
