Well, he DID get his promotion, didn't he?? Fonda was in Cannes promoting "The Big Fix," a documentary about the BP Gulf oil spill, a movie critical of Obama's handling of the crisis.

Those that would even think or contemplate that idea are a disgrace to the nation... traitors to democracy. I hope Peter Fonda gets his ass burned good for his comments.

Yep....kinda dumb on his part. It will be interesting to see what comes of it. If I had to make a choice between him and his big sis Jane....I'd pick Henry. He at least made more than one good movie.

Did everyone READ the actual comment or just see the headline? Maybe I’m reading it all wrong, but my take was that he was commenting on the general state of affairs in America and that his grandchildren needed to learn how to shoot because of Obama’s policies and direction for the nation. We’re facing a REAL Constitutional crisis in America. Our personal freedoms are being eroded almost daily and our safety is being put into jeopardy by this ‘gangster’ government and the liberal courts. It’s a sentiment that many Americans agree with. So, I didn’t take Fonda’s remarks as a threat to Obama at all.

It seems Fonda has more b@lls than brains. Stupid statement, but I didnt read it as a threat to anyone. I believe he was merely blaming a possible future civil unrest (violence) on Obama. I sure hope he is smart enough to adopt that position when the Secret Service comes a knockin

What Peter Fonda said was this: “I’m training my grandchildren to use long-range rifles,” said the actor, 71. “For what purpose? Well, I’m not going to say the words 'Barack Obama’, but …”. If you cannot figure out the implications of what this means then... well... I guess the education critics are correct. As for the rest of your post, I have to laugh. It is extremist views like yours that put this country in jeopardy... an inability to come together and resolve issues in spite of differences. As for me... you want a real 'gangster government'? You need look no further than Bush Jr who outed CIA agents, condoned torture, started a pointless war, and passed huge tax reductions with no corresponding reduction in spending. There is your gangster.

Yes, it's just a matter of semantics, but his statement could be taken to mean he's training his children to use long range rifles to take out Mr. Obama, OR it could mean that he believes Mr. Obama is destroying the country to the point where they will need to use long range rifles for simple survival (Hunting/Defense). Semantics, yes, who knows what the actual thought he was trying to convey, but his words can be used to go either way IMHO... And yeah, I hafta agree with Hoser too...

Also a big WOW! Today is still Wednesday, 25 May 2011. I agree with KW's and Chrisj CMA's interpretation that he was more likely readying his grandchildren for some sort of disastrous future. I may not agree as to the cause of that future, or if it will happen. The only odd thing in his statement was "long-range rifles". That implies a sniper or a specialized shooter.

Where'd I put that bronze so we can save this thread?
Yeah, I could see the possibility, but I had a hard time reconciling "long range rifles" with survival in a collapsed economy. It could be that Peter's concept of long range is anything over fifty yards. My definition of a long range rifle is something equipped for accuracy at over 500 meters.
I can see how it could be taken either way and well may have been quoted out of context.

If a 13 year old can be interviewed by the secret service for saying that he worries about suicide bombers, when no threat was made, then Fonda should be likewise interviewed. Ok, I make no secret at all that I loathe our current president. But I don't care, he is our president and the words "rifle and (current or former president) should NEVER be said in the same sentence. Fonda messed up, in my opinion. Ok, so here is my story of how I gave a good comeuppance to an egotistical moron on a social network. Bush was still president. I saw this dude's profile and the guy had an ar-15 in the pic, so I looked at his profile. Well, he was bragging how he was a huge world traveler, put himself through college himself by selling drugs in high school. He bragged that he got out of the business, so he thought of himself as a hero to come from that to where he was now. He also talked about how he hated, among many things, military servicemen (because they thought they were so badass), the current president, conservatives, and Enya. Don't ask me why Enya got his dander up, it's just what he said.... So... under people he would like to meet was Bush and his entire cabinet so he could "take them into the desert and kill them creatively" or something like that. Also, his entire profile was full of spelling errors and grammar mistakes. Which I thought was funny about someone who was so worldly and educated. Anyway, the Bovine decided to have a little fun. I sent him an email and said that I was amazed at his bad spelling and grammar, and that even a veiled threat to the president was not exactly legal. His response was two words, and they weren't "good night" or "happy birthday". The Bovine decided to let this lie for a while. I waited until the next day to see if the idiot had taken it down, but he hadn't. In fact, he had added a blog about people "hating" on him. Well, I sat down and looked up the number for the closest Secret Service office. They were in Indy, so I gave them a call. I said I had a question about a website that might have a threat to the president. He asked for the addy, which I gave. There was some typing on the other line and he waited a bit... then said he would forward this information to DC. Ok, glad I could help. I checked the guy's profile again 2 hours later and he had posted a blog titled "I just got a call from the secret service". In the blog he said he got a call at work and that they told him they would be waiting at his house when he arrived, and needed to have a talk". That night he posted a blog that said he had gotten interviewed and they had no issues and they agreed with him (yeah, right. Standard police training would seem to be putting a person at ease to see if they say anything else stupid, it would seem). He went on to rant that Bush must have software scanning the entire internet for people like him. I never did tell him it was me. Wait, I take that back, I did send him an email about a year ago, but never heard back. Yes, this is a true story. Yes, I did this. No, it won't show up on snopes because I have never mentioned it on a forum until now.

There is your gangster. an inability to come together? we had one party rule for two years. Obama said to repubs " I won" so they should just deal with it. there was no torture, if there was why have there been no trials? torture is illegal and unconstitutional. pointless war? like libya? you have a point on bush's spending which was 400 billion in his last year, but 53 months of expansive job growth in a ROW. he did good. sorry Mr Eagle the majority on this board is not 'extreme' you just see it that way from your point of view.

Bush had congress' approval. And why hasn't Obama gotten us out of Iraq yet? Why is he continuing the Patriot Act with additional things tacked onto it? And increased our national debt way beyond what Bush has done. So, the Libyan conflict isn't pointless? Sorry, will call it a war. And an unconstitutional one at that. By the way, where is Der Fuhrer right now? Oh. that's right, overseas with no intention of trying to get congressional approval for a very very illegal war.

FOR THE RECORD: I‘m training my granddaughter to shoot long range as well. As far as what defines “long range” sniping, here’s my take; When we take out the led Zombie, I want us to be far enough away that when the sound of the ‘report’ reaches the pack, they won’t be sure what direction it came from. How’s that?
There’s only ONE 500 yard range within driving distance, but that’s the ‘mark’ we’re working toward. Both my sons can consistently ‘cut paper’ for a score at that range. It’s a little long for my skill set though. Our local range only has a TWO hundred yard mark and we practice there. So, my goal for my granddaughter is to be able to hit a ‘pie plate’ every shot at 100+ from a free standing, unsupported position and to be able to hit a man-size target at 200+ from a rest. She’s still on a .22 @ 50 yards right now. My bride, who’s probably the second best shot in the family, has been working with her.

He's just shooting for some movie deals. That's what happens when you threaten a Republican President. Whoops, that's right, I forgot. Its free speech against Bush, but a national crisis when its Obama.
All kinds of similar comments made by lefties against Bush and Cheney. Of course, then it was "free speech". MP Please substantiate with references to rifles, Bush, etc... in the context of killing off Bush. Just one article. Can you do that? You know... something real? Instead of hot air? Here you go... http://tinyurl.com/3auvmmxhttp://www.zombietime.com/zomblog/?p=621Thanks, Serk! Just got back in. LOTS of links to MANY threats from the looney left. Do you think SE will thank you? Huh? LOL Once again, he is proven wrong, but do you want to take a bet he will admit it? MP Admit he's wrong??!!! Yeah right!! I'm still waiting for SE and/or the rest of the resident libs to tell us about the extra tax payment money they sent in for 2010. You know, to show their "patriotism" & their displeasure with the "Bush tax cuts". Surely people who so disapprove of the lower tax rates would put their money where their mouth is would'nt they??? I would be so disappointed with them if they did'nt. You can't argue with a contrarian, they don't know what they believe. They just know they don't agree with whatever you say regardless of the facts.

If you cannot figure out the implications of what this means then... well... I guess the education critics are correct. What a way to pass JUDGEMENT UPON someone..................... Maybe the best response to your response is to use your own words: Very predictable that you would have reacted as an indignant little boy. What in the world does my integrity have to to with the fact that you don't like something I posted? As for the rest of your post, I have to laugh. It is extremist views like yours that put this country in jeopardy... an inability to come together and resolve issues in spite of differences. What Does his oppinion of Obama have to do with SINGAPORE? Did you say you were a Christian? Just trying to understand how you and the teachings of Jesus relate to one another. PLEASE specify which words have OFFENDED you in this post, MINE or YOURS? Because the only words that I see that you could possibly find offense in are the ones that were your own. If that is the case then quite possibly you should choose your words more carefully in the future, That way they won't taste so bad should you have to EAT them.
