With gas conscious commuters buying small 2 wheeled commuter bikes/scooters it is noticeable how many have badly aimed headlights that from a distance look like the dying flicker of a lightning bug.

When last did you stand 50 yards ahead of your bike to check it's headlight alignment?

As Daniel Meyer has previously demonstrated old bulbs lose quite a bit of their lighting potency. Maybe you need to think about that as well?

I know a few weeks ago, coming home at night I found that the headlight on that bike didn't quite make it across the intersection.

It's fixed now!

Since I run on high beam with a modulator during the daytime and a lot of time at night, I check both high and low beams everytime I ride.  I use SilverStar Ultras for the increased light output with the knowledge I might have to replace the bulb yearly since they burn out faster.  It's a trade off I'm willing to live with.

I switched to that same bulb, recently. I also have gone out in front, and looked hard at my lights, and the one thing I DID change, is my 55W lights on the Cobra light bars - the 55W were great, with the headlight on bright, but TOO  bright for normal running, IMO, and since I leave them on all the time, I went to 35W'ers. I like them a LOT better. If I ever decide to switch my running lights with the bright switch, I'll change them back
