I am riding to Knoxville next week and will be riding the dragon.  Are there any other "don't miss" areas to ride while we are out there?  Thanks.

need to get Smokin Joe in on this one,,,when you ride the dragon, do just that,,ride it and watch out for everyone and everything else,, dont sight see while riding it,,,pay attention to what you are doing,,,
now that said,, there are a heck of a lot better rides around there than that one and Joe would be the one to tell you about those,,,I ride them but i dont remember any of the names of the roads,,,

Here are a couple of websites that may help.

The Snake is better than the Dragon in a lot of people's opinion,
including mine. Blue Ridge Parkway is a 'must ride'. Lots of good
roads along the TN/NC border.

Cherohala Skyway is a MUST do in this area.

http://www.cherohala.com/

Picture of bike below is in front of Bald River Falls, which is found on a short side road off of the Skyway

TXHOOD,
If you are staying in Knoxville, get on I75 south to lenoir City exit (81), take a left on hwy 321/95.
This will take you into Townsend,TN.  When you start into Townsend, look for signs for the "Foothills Parkway" this is one of the most scenic roads in the area. It will lead over to hwy 129 at the foot of Deals Gap. Once you do the Dragon stay on 129 till it intersects with Hwy 143 (this is Cherohala Skyway) this will take you over to Tellico TN. from there you can take hwy 68 back over to I75 north back to Knoxville. This will be a good day loop trip.

Do the Dragon at night and you can see the traffic.

And man is it fun at night.

In your own little world.

But I am always in my own little world anyway.

But try it you might like it.

You should certainly consider doing the BlueRidge Parkway if you have time.  At least from Roanoke  and south direction to Cherooke.
All back roads close to Henderson and Stechoah are great for riding
While a it stay at Iron Horse Motorcycle Motel in Stecoah, NC you will love it and book ahead
