After I polish my pieces and get em shining like chrome,, what is the best way to keep it looking its best? Clear coat it with lacquer? Polish it with wax? or just wash it with the rest of the bike?
your expertise is greatly appreciated,,

Concur with a good wax.  It may actually dull the best finish you can polish the wheel to a bit, but all shined up, they are magnets for new road crud and brake dust w/o wax.  The wax makes your polishing work last longer.  Then I just wash and wipe them for about a season until another hard polishing (and sore back) is necessary.  Mostly the rear gets nasty, cause its harder to work on.  I am slowly losing the war but what do you want for 12 yo bikes/wheels?   No idea on clear coat.

(And my least enjoyable maintenance is the rear wheel.)  tickedoff
When they get bad enough, I may get the rears powder coated a light gray and be done with it.

I always  use FLITZ as my final polishing step.  They claim it leaves a protecting coat and it seems to hold a good shine for several months.

Hey Jess T, where and appx. when will you be?   TN to Charleston WVa doesn't pass too close-by.

I'm in 22309, and tomorrow's local weather is 30% liquid sunshine beginning at 1P, 40% from 4P on.  Thunderstorms, no general front, so should be ok.  Same for Sat, Sun clear.

Half million Hogs in town for Rolling Thunder this weekend.  (I've been, and now stay far away from that all day exercise in walking your bike)
