i have a couple questions of you guys that have triked your valks. i have decided to go the darkside in the correct way - with two car tires on the rear. i am ordering the roadsmith independant rear suspension kit and a rake kit. i have considered the roadsmith rake kit (6 degrees) but not sure if 6 is enough or two much. i had a wing triked with a csc kit and a 6 degree, but my kid bro has a valk with a roadsmith and a 4 degree, i think it is to hard to steer with the 4 degree --  i hear here is an 8 degree available - sounds like a bit too much ???  also, do i need fork extentions too ? any insight into this ?

Triked my Interstate about 2 months ago with the Roadsmith kit. Came with the 6 degree rake kit and came with the fork extensions. Mine steers like a dream. Still have a big smile on my face every time I've taken her out. Only one complaint I have with the kit is they didn't have fender bras available like they do for the Harley's and Gold Wings. Already have a chip in one fender. Am paying a couple hundred to have the 3M fender protector put on next week. Brett

how long are the fork extentions ? did you use the ones from fx6 ? i have tried e-mailing them some questions, its like they advertise here but don't really exist, no answer - period !

do you have any sway in the trike on hard cornering ? i have had the solid rear axle in a wing, it did not sway at all, but i rode a new wing triked with an independant hannigan kit and it tried to buck me off in the twisties.

I triked my 99 IS two years ago. I got a Roadsmith from the Trike Shop. I put an 8 dregree set of trees with standard tubes. No extensions. Steers like a dream at any and all speeds. Trike is real low to the ground! Be careful of large speedbumps and steep driveways! Long---Low--- Fast-- Nasty!!  Love It!!    Fuzzy    Vrcc#5403

rj

i am triking a standard with the same kit. can i keep the factory luggage rack to mount a trunk on ?

what allowances does roadsmith make for the pipes to reach the rear of the body ?

I HAD A 6 DEGREE ON MY WING AND IT WAS REALLY LIGHT, BUT I LOVED IT. MY BROTHER HAS A 4 ON HIS VALK AND I THINK ITS TOO HARD TO STEER, BUT ROADSMITH TOLD ME TODAY THAT THE 4 DEREE IS ALL THEY RECCOMEND ON THE VALK.

02 Standard with a Mystery Designs independent rear suspension and air ride. The front end is a VTXtream 6 degrees and 2 over. Call VTXtream, the owner is unbelievably knowledgeable about front geometry, trikes and Valkyries. Even if you don't buy the VTXtream he is well worth talking to. And if you do he has front end kits specifically for Valkyries.

What ever rear end kit you buy just ensure you get independent suspension, do not get a solid axle. I choose air ride but as long as it is adjustable. Mystery Designs makes kits for Valkyries, they are probably the best engineered but the company can be painful to deal with. They also make U-Joints for Valkyries..... California Sidecar also makes a very nice kit for Valkyries.

You will want some rake, it will improve steering but remember the more rake the less turning radius. The important thing is to keep the frame level to the ground or even slightly nose down. If you raise the front of the frame the trike will be light in the front resulting in low speed bump steer and high speed drift.

Welcome to the Brotherhood of the Third Wheel. After thirty-five years on two wheels and three wheels these days I wonder why I waited so long.....

o.k. so now i am confused. you say make sure to go with independant rear end, but then that CSC  makes a nice kit. problem with that statement is that csc don't make an independant rear end for a valk.

i called csc, they refuse to allow me to install the kit myself. i aint paying someone over a thousand bucks to do something i have done myself before. i installed my own kit on a goldwing ( a csc kit) but apparently they are into making their dealers a bunch of bucks, so now require you use thier dealers to install. too bad i liked the csc kit (solid axle and all)

roadsmith looks like the hot smokin deal, but their 4 degree rake kit is almost a grand when i can get it for 620.00 from darl, i don't think so. i am a lifetime auto body and painter, so i can't see paying them over a grand to paint it for me either, i have painted a number of them over the years, never charged over 500 bicks for a paint job on one, and i do very nice custom quality work (did, i'm old now)

Rodeo1

on purpose ?

Same Question I asked Darryl when I heard he was moving his shop to Alabama.

Seriously though, He has been really busy moving all his milling machines, bridgeports,  and other equipment to his new location. I think he has cell issues in the area he is in also, so leave him a message and I am sure he will get back to you.

Hi i have a 99 interstate with a roadsmith IRS and i love it-- i had a 2002 wing with a champion straight axel and it road hard --i have it raked 8 degrees and love it handles on all roads --its long -low-mean-but you need to watch speed bumps because it sits low but it handles better -- My wing always felt top heavy never sat in curves the valk does it will keep up with any 2 wheeler --i think roadsmith is the only trike kit that has IRS for the valk   GOOD LUCK

man that is an awsome looking trike. i actually found that photo somewhere and saved it to show the wife. that is really a mean looking machine. so you get along good with the 8 degree, huh ? roadsmith says no, only a 4 degree will work, i had a 6 on my wing and liked it a lot, but i was wondering about the 8. if you wouldn't mind, send me a pm with your e-mail add. so i can ask all the rest of the silly questions. rodeo1@acsol.net

i need another reccomendation for a rake kit. i have left messages with this guy at xf6 designs, sent e-mails, etc. he doesn't answer anything, i need to get this trike built and can't wait till he gets around to it. who else makes a good 4 or 6 degree kit ?
