Good one....probably "more truth than poetry" in that one. One time a number of years back, we had a Florida legislator visit our offices on a so-called Good Will tour. I was a fairly new employee at the time, had only been a Fla. employee about 3 years. To me, and probably everyone else, this character was selling us a bill of goods for his own benefit since he was also running for office the following year. When he opened the floor for a Q&A session, I simply asked why do the lobbyists essentially make the laws and you legislators merely pass them? You could see his BP rise based on the size of the veins on the side of his neck. He then asked for examples....which I gladly gave him. After I mentioned about 6-7 which had all been pretty much at the demands of the various lobbyists, he interrupted me. The meeting was brought to a close shortly thereafter. Fast forward about 20 yrs., I was on an advisory committee re. some tax rule reforms and who should I run into but this legislator. He gave me one look, closed his brief case and walked out, the next day he removed himself from the committee. In the following weeks, most of what he had been instrumental in trying to get included was tossed out....they had all been suggested by industry lobbyists. I often wondered which created the most income for him....his legislative salary or the lobbyists. I guess we all know the answer. PS: "Better stop it, people might start liking you."Always did! Darn sure doesn't mean I always agree with him or his methods. To me, it's two different issues.

I wish it was true NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- In an attempt to deflect rising anger among American drivers and political leaders, Exxon Mobil said Thursday that it makes relatively little money on gasoline, even as it reported a nearly $11 billion quarterly profit. "We understand that it's simply too irresistible for many politicians in times of high oil prices and high earnings -- they feel they have to demonize our industry," said a statement from Exxon vice president Ken Cohen.

No worries, Ken... they won't demonize you too much, what with E-M's more than 180 million in contributions over the last decade... not to mention support of 'independent' action groups that just happen to support E-M.

I don't know when did it become illegal to become wealthy,, or have a large company that sells on supply and demand, Demand goes down and then profits do the same. Until us free people get our heads on straight and buy a car that gets at least 40 in the city. We will be paying these prices,,,,Get Rid of your SUV's or as Israel calls them Saudi Utility Vehicles. WE are poking ourselves and they are laughing all the way to the bank. If you want to know who is screwing the American People, go look in the mirror. You know it's true.
