I am new to VRCC... hello!  I have not been riding for very long but find 2 wheels as my primary transportation..

While on vacation in the Smoky Mountains in 2006, I got the bug. All the cruisers, thick as gnats on a hot summer day – man I gots to get me one on them. So I started lurking on forums and researching. I felt to start riding I needed a bike that was easy to ride and reliable (as I am not a wrench)..

All the input and feedback on the Honda Sabre was “just ride it” “handles great” “low maintenance”.. So my decision was made. In September 2006, I took the MSF course in Macon and finally made my purchase in March of 2007, a 2003 with 6975 miles. Wahooo, what a blast! ... BUT, I have always had my eye on the Dragon.. but shied away for my first bike.. now with 50K miles in the saddle I got serious.  .. man-o-man what a bike !!  2001 with 30,000 miles..  She runs great ..  but there is one nagging issue..

100 horses and a mouse:  once I get up to about 35 mph I hear a squeek (or a whistle sound) that is consistent but intermittent coming from low on my left side.. could it be the alternator? When I took the cover off, I could not find anything I could easily get to..  It does not happen on the side stand while revving her. Sometimes is sounds like a squeeky wheel..Sometimes is seems to be wind gust related .. like there is wind blowing through a cover opening... and speaking of cover.. the top pin that holds the alternator cover in place want to pop out..  Any ideas the group can share, I would really appreciated it..  I have been lurking for a while trying to learn what I can and plan to be very active on the board... thanks.

Welcome.

About a month ago, there was a thread where folks were sharing the different kinds of sounds wind made through our bikes, and how they fixed it.  But I don't remember enough about it to search it out for you.  Hopefully someone who participated in it will come along and dig it out for you.

post this question over on the tech board for more opinions.  The center cylinders on each side have vacuum lines that terminate on a "T" underneath the gas tank.  The rear cylinder on the left side has one on it that operates the petcock.  These hoses over time get soft and develop cracks that suck air in and whistle.  That also causes the cylinder with the crack or opening to run lean and the bike will pop on decel.  Then there are the metal bands that are located between the intakes and the carbs that get loose, you need to tighten those also.
Good luck and the Shop Talk section has lots of "how to's" including changing out those vacuum lines.  Let us know how you come out.

Also there is a LOOOOOOONG bolt that runs from one side of the bike to the other.  It is about where the horn hooks on.  Maybe a tad lower on the frame rail.  It can get a little loose if set to the torque the manual says.

I grabbed my big impact wrench, and a good box end wrench for the other side and blasted away.   It tightened it up real good and in 325K I have not heard it again.

You are right, it cn be annoying.  LOL.

Its the "buz" bolt.   just tighten it on both sides of the frame and it should stop.  Just look at the 3 bolts around where the top of the crash bars mount.  One of the bolts is in line with a cross-over tube that goes to the other side of the frame.......tightn both ends tight and I bet the sound goes away
