In order to clean my air filter I had to remove the Honda Chrome Engine Hanger Covers.  I cleaned the air filter and replaced my gas tank with no major problems (except for that front screw on the top of the air box - what a pain), however, replacing the Chrome Engine Hanger Covers has proved beyond my mechanical expertise (which is very limited).  I can't figure out how to keep the spacers where they're supposed to be while putting the covers in place.  Is there a trick to doing this ?  The original owner had these installed, so I'm not sure how to get them back on.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

It is tricky holding it together while trying to thread the bolts in.  You might want to consider a hardware kit like this one to make it easy to take apart and reassemble.

Try gluing the spacers in place.
May have some wait time for the glue to dry but it should work.

I hadn't considered that.  Thanks for the suggestion.

you should consider the Ratdog mod....here's a link.

http://www.vermin-club.org/mods/EngineHanger.html

I used regular bolts instead of the studs, cut the heads off with a hacksaw, filed the ends with a bevel, and used red locktite to hold the nut in the proper depth on the threaded portion.

makes removal a 2 minute job and no more dinking around with the spacers.

I never touched my engine hanger covers to pull the tank (for an air cleaner swap).  Worked around them.  (interstates)

Go with the Carolina Bike and Trike kit as listed above. Once installed it will make removing that cover a two-second job.

Either it's too early, or I just don't get it? I've never removed my engine hangers for air filter change/cleaning. I just pull the tank? ???

not the hangers themselves, but the chrome hanger covers that Honda made (and others copy).

Removing the hanger covers does make removing and re-installing the hoses a lot easier...

I used silicone and glued them in place.  It took me a while but after the third filter change I finally figure it out, especially after one of them fell near the alternator and I had to yank it to get the spacer.......one of those 1 hour jobs that takes all day.
