from the tech archives. http://www.valkyrieforum.com/forum/tech_archive.cgi?read=1293297Re: Fork Tool needed Posted By: 98valk < fitness7days@nospam.juno.com> Date: 9/25/2008 at 12:17:17 In Response To: Fork Tool needed (hangar18valk) cheaper than round trip shipping. Posted By: 98valk < fitness7days@nospam.juno.com> Date: 6/26/2006 at 05:30:06 In Response To: any fork tools in rockhill area (draino) u can use an electric heater element removal tool from home depot for $6, it has the required ID and ODs. Modify the round end per Chet's website http://www.rattlebars.com/vtx/forktools.html and u will need a 6 point 1 3/4" socket and 2-3 large washers to fit inside of the socket. The washers are to keep the socket from hitting the triple clamp while pressing down to remove the inner fork nut. It will also be easier to remove if a 2x4 is put under the front wheel and then lower the bike which raises the inner nut whereas the washers are not needed.

I turns out I already have a Home Depot hot water heater tool. Cutting the teeth on the round end would be no problem, but where the heck you gonna find a 1 3/4" socket? I have some "tractor" sockets (3/4" drive), but they stop at 1 1/2".
I checked the local Honda dealer. He couldn't find it with part number or detailed discription. After several minutes of looking, he asked me "if it was used to change sparkplugs."
The Honda distributer found it in 15 seconds. New cost: $47.80
Hey Bugslayer, I think I'll try to get a hold of you on PM.

Harbor Freight, or a Pawn shop to get the needed socket to modify.
I got mine from the Pawn shop about a block from the shop, looked at the picture someone had posted and started grinding with a dremal.
It seems to work, a couple of others have borrowed it, and speaking of that, I ain't got it back yet. Guess I'll have to make a phone call tomorrow or Monday.
