Hi, I am in the process of doing the ECT mod on my 2000 Tourer and am not sure about one point. I'm using the potentiometer and have the resister and wire connections soldered to the pot. Do I solder the diode from pot and resister connection to the light green/red stripe wire now? Thanks in advance for your help.

Same question here. I did the ECT mod last week with the pot and it doesn't turn off like it should. I talked to another Valk rider today who has it on his and said his idle changes with the turning of the pot. Mine doesn't change even if I turn the pot off. I put the diode from the center leg of the pot to the light green/red wire. I made sure the stripe on the diode was away from the resistor as instructed in the directions. What did I do wrong? ??? Thanks in advance.

I would at least like to be able to turn off the mod if I want, even if just with a switch, but now I want to figure out what I did wrong. Guess it's a "man thing" . I can't stand to be beaten by a problem, so I have to figure out what I did and fix it or worry myself to death about it. It's raining today, so think I will go out to the shed and take a look. Maybe I will see something obvious that I missed. Tim

Hardhead, if I can get it figured out I will post what I did. Sorry, I didn't mean to hijack your thread.

I found my problem. The pot I got is bad. It has a loose connection in it. I can put pressure on the top of it and it works. Let go and it goes back to full advance. Now I just have to find a Radio Shack open on Sunday. Here is a pic of how I soldered up the pot to install. Not a great pic, but maybe you can see how the components are connected. The 2 plain wires are spliced into the green/black wire with the outer pin of the pot closer to the connector. The wire with the diode goes to the light green/red wire. I soldered everything and used heat shrink tubing on all the connections. Hope this helps. Tim

I haven't done the mod, but here's a schematic I drew in preparation (I have to do this sort of thing from a drawing). -RP

Slowroad, Thanks for the reply. I have mine wired exactly like your picture now but I do'nt think it is working. I do'nt notice a difference with it turned up or down. Maybe I have some bad parts too. I still have a 6 degree trigger wheel installed but will be changing it back to stock next week. Will check with a timing light while the front cover is off to see if it is advancing or not. If not I will probably do away with the pot.

Just installed the new pot and it works great. Hardhead, remember that the bike has to be in gear for the mod to work. It idles as normal when in neutral and activates when in gear. Not that I wouldn't have remembered this when I started testing mine today. ... Anyway, it is working now and when in gear, the pot does change the idle up and down. Still pouring rain, so don't think I will road test it today. Hope yours goes well. Tim

Is there a reason that I don't know of that needs 2 instead of the one, or am I reading it wrong? Thanks Tim

The second diode is optional. One is there to keep your rpm from jumping up when you pull the clutch in. The other is to keep it from jumping up when in neutral. -RP

I was trying to figure out how this mod works, too. I gotta have a diagram to get started also, looks like mine matches up to what you've drawn out.

Tried my ect mod again today and it worked fine. I probably did'nt let it warm up long enough the first time. Oh well, I never said I had much patience. My next Valkyrie project is going to be an Audiovox cruise control.
