3 Shim washers under needles on 97 Carbs???? Bought a set of 97 carbs from Pinwall to rebuild. After inspecting slides and needles I found 3 washers under all the needles.. My 99 intersate carbs only has 1 shim washer per needle.. Carbs run great but smells gassy... Plugs are pinkish tan...

Any Ideas??

Thanks, Pete

The 3 washers are not stock, they were added probably due to a wild ass set of 6 into 6 drag pipes were on it and they were trying to get back the horse power lost, OR, the bike came from the mountain area.

Take them out and don't worry about it.

I shimmed my needles too, years ago. Forgot about that. Interstate springs, shimmed the needles
(2 shims per needle) and switched from Dyna Ignition to a six degree trigger wheel, K&N Filter, no pre-filter.

I found just the opposite coming over the Rockies enroute to one of the IZs... I was almost pouring raw fuel out the Vikings and had to stop and drop my needles a couple of clicks until I dropped down into the lower elevations again... then stop and raise 'em back up to feed it more juice.

Way too much!

Probably the result is low mpg figure.

Toss the extra shims, they're not helpful and they cost you mileage.

Not having to use the choke. With the 38's it's like your running with the choke "on" all the time!
