Made good progress on all of the maintenance items yesterday, in kindred spirit with those in Kilgore.

New dampers, changed oil, replaced all 3 o-rings and re-molyed the splines.  This is how they appeared after I cleaned them up and before applying new paste:

The new darkside tire is an Altimax HP V-rated 205-60-16:

Cruise control attached and the arrow points to the cable that goes to the throttle:

And the control head itself mounted, wired, etc.:

The communications electronics installed into the Nolan helmet as well.  Now reworking the wiring to make it a little nicer, then will reinstall the air box and tank and see if it starts! crazy2

Hope to be riding by the meeting on Thursday.

Mark, that looks great.  I may go that way in the future. Thanks for the info on the Altimax, both you and Lyn-Del.  It made my decision a lot easier.  Handles great.  Missed you at the party, but we'll meet again in the future.  Have fun at InZane.  Be safe and God bless.

I am thinking crashing your party Mark. It's been going on for a while. How many miles on those good looking splines?

66K on those splines.  I've used both moly paste and marine bearing grease on them, but back to moly paste for this go round.  I think it doesn't matter as much what you use as long as you do keep them lubed on a regular basis.

The party is almost over.  The rear end, saddle bags, etc are all back together.  I took out the wiring for the turn signals on the trunk lights as it had so many relays that I just knew it would become a problem later.  I have other ideas I'll look into for my next major reworking.  Cleaned up some other wiring I had done and made it simpler.  I have piezos in for the turn signals that sound if I leave them on, but will turn off if the turn signals and brake lights are on at the same time.

Used tie wraps to pull in the intakes from the air box, then set it in very easily on top of the carbs.  From that location, cut the tie wraps and they just popped into place.

Should finish up tonight or tomorrow night.  Depends on how long it takes me to figure out all the washers and fasteners for those engine hanger chrome pieces.

Remember, most of this "party" occurred as a result of being banned from riding for a month.

As for "crashing" the party, we don't use that word around here..... laugh

Took a while longer than I thought but I am finally finished with my Interstate. Put in half gallon of gas to the bone dry tank, hit the starter and it fired up immediately. Burped the radiator then put the seat on as the final part of the process. Will scrub off the altimax darkside tire tomorrow and test the cruise control.

WooHoo!

You put the spitshine on those splines. I agree that it really doesn't matter what you use to grease them. What matters is that theres grease on them. I want to know how the cruise performs. I want one for mine.

The cruise control is incredible.  Kinda' spooky, in a way.  I've never taken my hand off the throttle for more than a second or two while riding and now, I hit the button and it just sticks to a speed.

The valve adjustment and new plugs really pepped up the motor.  Feels like new.

However, not all is grand.  The Altimax appears to be rubbing the drive shaft housing/swingarm on the pumpkin.  I took a quick 10 mile ride and when I got back, felt some rubber dust on the wheel.  Plus, the wheel and pumpkin are very hot to the touch, as is the tire and swingarm.  And there is a slight sheen on the right side of the Altimax.  So, we're not quite there yet.
