Ft Jackson in the summer is hot, and the Post General put the word out that any private that fell out from heat stroke would result in the command getting a letter of reprimand.  I was the exective officer for a basic training company and my commander was a prior SF enlisted that got a commission and only had 1 year left to retirement.  He was untouchable.  Post general was walking around the Battalion and came across a Drill Sergeant with a water hose filling up a new privates boots  with water in an effort to help break in.  The general made a direct line to the Commanders office. As I was talking the the commander the general walked in and asked "Why is one of your sergeants pumping water into a privates boots"... without missing a beat the commander said "Sir, you said water them til they squeak!"  General turned around and walked out without saying a word!
