Running Hot

I have a 2002 Standard Valkyrie with 20,000 miles. I have noticed that the fan is running a lot more and a lot longer than it used to. I checked with a temp gun and I had 200 degrees at radiator inlet
I checked the thermostat and it opened at 180 degrees. I plan to replace the thermostat because I already have it out. Did I read somewhere on this board that some automotive thermostats work?
Has anyone ever run into a water pump impeller slipping on the shaft?
Any help I can get would be appreciated. Thanks!

Check Jeff K's Generic Parts page in Shoptalk for the thermostat.

IMO,
stay with oem stat. it has a wider operating range than aftermarket. your readings are normal
if anything these engines run cool. they were designed to be fully enclosed in fairing with limited ariflow across the engine and with side mounted rads in a goldwing. nothing was changed except now a forward facing rad, no fairing airflow across the engine and the lower rad hoses.
fan running longer and staying on, u have other problems, air in system, wrong % of antifreeze, corrosion from not changing antifreeze, bad fan switch, etc.

My experience..... Every two or three years remove the rad. place it on a clean white rag large enough for it to lay on the floor and wash it from the rear side with a pressure washer. Reduce the setting so you don't bend the fins. You won't believe what comes outta there. It will make a difference
