So I bought a 2000 Valkyrie I/S (but still keeping my 98 Tourer, you can never have too many motorcycles)  had some minor work done to the truck and bags, and now got the parts back, all painted and looking great.. now to put back together… ok,  so yes, I am new to the I/S,  so having some issues trying  figure out where the stupid cables should be secured to preventing the bag lids from falling when hanging over the sides? ...Help anyone?...pictures?  Detailed instructions?...

I tried the front for half a day and couldn't get the lid on.

The picture here http://www.hdlparts.com/fiche_section_detail.asp?section=148705&category=MOTORCYCLES&make=HONDA&year=2001&fveh=3475 is not the clearest, but it looks like the short cable is the rear cable.  The price supports that assumption.

The cable length is not critical on the I/S bags.

I've repaired them many times with little regard for the length.

The big deal is the internal bumpers in the lids.

When the little rubber bumpers that are on the ends get gone, the bare metal scratches the crap out of the bags on the side where they hit.

With the bumpers gone there is a less concentrated scratching affect, still have to be careful tho!

I just leave the cables off on mine.  I prefer to take the lids off completely, and set them down.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

Long cable in back and short in front. The lid then lays over the side of the bag, perfectly level, with the top edge of the side of the bag.
