Maybe because you're not an immature dickhead. It told this guy that what I thought of riding to a town they don't live in to harass people they don't know. He should have at least driven his cage and left his big-ass flags at home. I sure don't want to be identified with him.

I have to disagree with you Fiddle mike! Those people just got a very little taste of their own medicine. We need more people standing up to this nonsense. Groups like this particular church don't contribute anything to society but hate. The only issue I have with this is it gives them more time with media, the less we talk about them the faster they will go away. Maybe they will be having a kool aid party soon and take care of it for us.

The locals are tired of getting sued by this renegade law firm masquerading as a church... I'm still waiting for some DA who wants to make a name for himself to slap them with Barratry charges...

+1 from me as well on this one. Fiddle Mike, I don't see where you're coming from on this. These guys made a special trip to hopefully have some small impact on this so-called church. From all indications they got the reaction they were looking for and apparently were widely supported by the locals. Could it be the direction of your immaturity description should be reversed?

This " so-called church" is protected by the Constitution. When you get into that "so-call church" business you wind up with civilians gassed and murdered by American troops. As for my level of maturity, I'm not playing dress-up and going on "missions" to annoy people.

Wow, a church that OWNS AN INTIRE CITY BLOCK!!! tax free I should say, think of all the tax dollars that are NOT going to the local schools. This is a feel good story, I’m sure the town has some sane people in it that are ecstatic that this small group of Harley riders came to town. Now, if the NATION of riders would come together to protest these idiots, bring the fight to their door step, that would be AWSOME!! Why doesn’t the ATF investigate them for having illegal firearms like they did in Waco, TX?

Surprisingly (maybe not) I agree somewhat with Fiddle Mike. Their purpose was undefined (as they say) and they ended up more or less just harassing someone at the church. When they went to the war memorial, they at least had a purpose with a counter protest. What was their protest message? To protest some else's free speech rights?

Just because it's legal doesn't make it right. Such is the case of the fools at that church. I won't call them Baptist because they're so far removed from anything I've ever experienced from that denomination. I don't happen to be a member, but have known many people over the years that are....and these clowns aren't anything close.

As I live and work in Topeka I can answer the question of why the locals didn't join in. 2 reasons really. 1. Who knew? 4 guys from Colorado showing up with flags outside of this one block - Topeka isn't terribly big but it's not like they are going to get noticed and have a bunch of people join in just because they spent 4 hours doing a counter picket. 2. We locals have done this in the past - it's nothing new. There have been plenty of counter protests over the last 20 years. Yes I said 20 years. (Probably more like 15 but it's been a loooong time) This guy and his 3 buddies did something that they THINK is original but it's not - I remember showing up to one in the mid 90's. I stood shoulder to shoulder with gay rights activists as they blasted away on bull horns and raised their fists. Allot of people don't know that the WBC started with only picketing places tied to the gay culture. ( I apologize if this statement or any other in this isn't politically correct - I am not up to date with the proper terms or considerations. Additionally I am attempting to offend no one - it is your life and your right to do as you please with it ) When they stopped getting the press that they felt they deserved they moved onto picketing funerals and then funerals of Americas Patriots. We locals thought for the longest time (as someone else posted) that if you just ignore them they will go away. And it looked like it may work until they started in on the soldiers. They have now found a target that will keep the attention going - most likely for another 20 years.
I'm glad they saw some support from locals and I'm glad that they felt good about themselves afterwards on their way home but I have no illusions that they made any kind of difference or that they actually got under the skin of the Phelps clan. I could REALLY go on from here - probably for pages worth of information, but I can tell I am getting riled up and I have other duties/projects that my attention is better spent on.
I end my rambling with: If YOU want to make a difference I have one suggestion - join the Patriot Guard - show up at a soldier’s funeral, stand in line and show your support for them, their family and our Country. I KNOW how good I will feel afterwards and it never disappoints.

Not quite sure why the protest prone Westboro Church is "protected by the Constitution" for its excersing freedom of speech , but not the anti-Westboro protestors. Why would you feel one group has more rights than the other? At least, by not getting into "this 'so-call church' business", the anti-Westboro protestors did not "wind up with civilians gassed and murdered by American troops". Are you freaking kidding me? Do you really believe that's what "this 'so-call church business" is? You need to re-read what you said, Mike. If you truly believe it all, you may want to open a Westboro satellite church in your town. I am extemely grateful the you are in a small minority on this, more distubed, though that others think like you.

Proud of em. These folks seem to want to do nuttin but sue other people. I know that congress says they have certain(rights). You can't pick up a paper where some body or some group are claiming that their (Rights) have been violated. These folks(wbc) i feel like they are violating MY RIGHTS just by breathing free air. E O D is always lookin for folks-i volunteer every last one of these idiots for e o d duty. Give em all ball peen hammers and send em to the sand box and work known minefields. If they do survive-keep sendin em back. Course ya might hafta sedate em some to get em on the air craft. If this sounds harsh-it was meant to. RIDE SAFE.

the solution for this, like many problems ignore it and it will go away. if the press would stop giving them air time we could all get on with more important things, like will there be a NFL season?

Had I been able, I would have joined Charlie. If for no other reason than to take a stand against this group. They broke no laws and took a stand. No one got hurt. Sounds like a good time was had by all. I know Kansan's are tired of this group, they have to live with it daily. Support from the outside is usually appreciated.

Yeah, these Jack-holes showed up to protest outside of our base in Texas, and so did the Patriot Guard who ensured no one could hear a thing they said. Gotta love it when two groups express their rights and the right group comes out on top! If i had it my way the WBC's block would be a crater.

+1000 on this... The Patriot Guard has done a great part in muffling these loseholes rants at funerals for our fallen for a long time. It is despicable what this so called church will do to families that just want to honor their dead. I'm proud to be a member of the Patriot Guard

+1 what tybme said
History has shown us over and over that ignoring a problem does not make it go away
Would you ignore a toothache, a cavity? I have and posts and crowns are big bucks.
Would you ignore cancer? an ulcer? chest pain?
It took one scared lady not giving up her seat on the bus to bring change. She was no hero just a tired lady. The media got hold of her story and we know the end result
4 fellas with flags brought change for the day Their story is now viral who knows the result
not saying I have any answers but those 4 didnt hurt anyone, didnt defile any house of worship, I dont think they made noise to interrupt any worship service and did not threaten anyone.
To the best of my knowledge they werent yelling death to Westboro just waving the flags of the United States of America.
My hat is off to them FM we surely disagree on this one
and PGR is so important Every ride I go on seems the gnats are in my eyes...

I went to my first funeral for a fallen hero in McAlister, OK last fall. I went by myself but when I arrived, there was at least 300 bikes already and alot more were on the way. I was truly impressed with the motorcycling community that day, every kind of motorcycle rider was there, cruiser, harley, sportbike, bmw, 1%'ers, winger, hell there was even a couple of scooters too, and everybody got along great. Believe me when I say that the family may have heard some bikes, but they never heard or saw those fools from wbc. After the church services we followed the family to the cemetary about six miles away. The locals made sure that there was nowhere for the wbc to park and protest where the family would have had to seen them, Every parking spot, driveway or wide spot was full of flag waving, patriotic sign holding Americans. I WAS SO PROUD!!!!!! We found out later that the wbc's van had their tires cut and no tire store or wrecker in town would come out and repair their van. They finally called AAA and they got a wrecker from Eufala that hauled their vehicle to a Walmart.

Was with the PGR group that escorted him from the airport to the funeralhome. We had 140 bikes on Sat. for the escort. The State Troopers blocked all roads to include part of the Interstate. The Marines did a great job, they made all of us proud. This Marine Hero has left behind a young wife and two daughters. May God protect and guide them. Santa
