ABATE, AMA, & MRF rep.

« on: June 12, 2011, 11:00:49 AM »

I am so proud of my wife! She is a hard core rider and will not back down to any challenge.

My wife became a motorcyclist after my first back surgery in 2008. She joined the VRCC and ABATE and was determined to the best motorcyclist she could. She is currently our ABATE region secratary and volanteers at virtually every event. She recently received an ABATE of MI scholarship for completeing the MSF rider coach program with honors.

This weekend she taught her first Basic Rider Course at the Schoolcrsft College Public Safety Campus.
The following pictures show her timing students that have gotten to the last phase of their course.

Good on her.   That 1st one is a beech, but after that it just comes natural.

That's great!! More and more, I'm seeing women that aren't content to sit on back and look pretty, but want to ride their OWN ride, and look pretty!!

My wife has always had a bike of some sort, since she bought her first dirt bike at 12 or 13. Sold her 1200 Skirtster, a couple years back, when she had knee replacement, didn't think she could ride any more. I'm looking for an Ace Tourer, hopefully to match mine, and surprise her with it, something like this:

That's great, that she's teaching the course! I wouldn't have the patience to teach like that - one on one, yeah, group, not so much!

It HAS to be a great feeling, knowing you are not just teaching riders, but teaching them the CORRECT way to ride!

I have to admit that I am jealous because I've been wanting to teach that course for a while and have yet to find the time for the training. I really should. It sounds like a fun way to make money on a weekend.

Teaching people to ride is very rewarding.  Don't forget the liability that goes with the teaching.  Follow the teaching guidelines and everything should be fine.  It never gets easy; or at least, it shouldn't but it does become more rewarding, because you also learn as you teach.

Not only do you get unbelievable fuel mileage but you're a whole year ahead of us too. How do you do that?  ???
