Motorcycle but not Valc Related

Needing some advice for my son about his '08 ZZR.
The bike is a tad too tall for him, and he was asking dad what he had to do to lower it by about 2". Rather than admitting I have no idea, I thought I'd ask some real gear heads about what is involved in such a project.
What needs to be done? Is it mostly a matter of removing some suspension parts and bolting on new?
Are there any drawbacks to such a project? Such as adverse effects on handling and so on?
Thanks in advance for any comments.

Does it have rear shocks like the Valk? If so, you can probably install shorter ones. If it's a single shock like on my V-Strom, you can get(maybe) longer "Dogbones" which will lower it. I've done that on the Strom. I would imagine the forks can be "slipped" in the trees to lower the front by the same amount. Then either a custom seat or modify the stock one. 2" is a lot to lower a bike without compromising ground clearance.

It would seem that lowering links are out there and readily available. should be as easy as bolting a pair one, adjusting them to were you like, then matching by adjusting the front forks, as you stated. The only draw backs would be that you will have a little less clearence underneath and lower lean angles. IMHO, 2 inches wouldn't worry me on that bike.
