If you looked for a new 2011 Chrysler 200 Limited and a Hyundai Sonata Limited; you'd find that they are both built in this country, they both have the same V6 motor and auto 6 speed transmission. They were both styled in the USA, and are virtually identical in most dimensions (wheelbase, length, heigth, width, front and rear track, as well as weight, and interior dimensions also). Both are priced similarly and have virtually identical amenities.

The Hyundai has a far longer warranty and a bit more power from the same engine.

Would anyone be swayed by the Tag Line "Imported from Detroit" for the Chrysler 200?

Just wondering if others are as curious as I am?

There's a fly in the ointment here, the Sonata is not available with a 6 cylinder engine. I know, I have one. A 2011 SE.

Ya beat me to it, my daughter has a Hyundai and it has a 4 banger.     Hellish good gas mileage out of hers, but it is all highway miles to and from work and to and from her job sites.

aside from the jeep line-up from that manufacturer the only vehicle i would consider is the hemi version of the 300. all things considered not a fan of the styling ques of the new version.

Check the Hyundai website.
The Sonata originally was introed with only a four banger, but the new 2012 Limited comes standard with a Chrysler/Hyundai jointly built V6 in Trenton MI.

Chrysler does not share drivetrains with Hyundai.
The 2011 Sonata is only available in a 2.4 liter 4 and a 2.0 liter turbo 4.
This info is from the Hyundai website. Look here:

Momz:
I'm not sayin' you're wrong but I belong to a Sonata forum much like the VRCC and there has been nothing said about a V6. Also, I just got off of the 2011 Sonata website where you can build your own car. When I went to the "select power train" section for the Limited, nothing came up but the 2.4 Liter 4cyl. The Turbo Limited has a 2.0 Liter Turbo Charged 4 cyl.

I'd like to know which website says that a 6 cyl is now available. Not that I would want one as my 200 hp 6 speed auto with select shift paddle shifters is more than enough fun.

Please let me know where you found this info.

six2go,

My bad,  I wrote 2011 Hyundai Sonata. It is the 2012 Sonata Limited.

Check out these websites:

Sorry Momz, I'm not seeing anything about a 6cyl. Only that the mileage figures for the 2.4 & 2.0 Turbo are better.

Hyundai had a 6 in 2010 & earlier Sonatas but it only put out something like 176 HP. For 2011 they came out with the 4cyl in 198 & 200 HP versions & dropped the 6. Then in the Fall of '10 they came out with the Turbo 2.0 which churns out around 264 hp. Kinda wish I would have waited 3 months.

Momz, Google 2012 Sonato and yes there are 2 models with a V6. one is the SE V6, and I think the other one was a Limited V6.

If you like the Hyundai Sonata Limited, I say go for it.  Imported from Detroit is ok but Fiat has no intention of paying back all of the money that Chrysler borrowed from our children and grand children.  Which ever one you like the best is the one for you.    Smiley

BTW saw this on the news the other night.  The Toyota Camry creates the most jobs of any "made in America car".
