I recently installed my cruise control in my 2000 Interstate and it is not working. The control lights up, but the cruise does not do anything when set.

I do have LEDs and a brake light modulator, but used instructions from shoptalk to install a relay at the brake wire after it wouldn't work the first time I tried it. All other install intructions were followed as written. I hooked into two of the intakes for vacuum rather than use a canister.

Any ideas where to start looking for a problem?

Is your relay a Normally Closed one, that's what is needed. When you hit the brakes it activates the relay and breaks the ground. Also, did you remove the small black jumper located at the end of the internal plug on the servo? Where did you connect the pickup for a signal, should be on one of the yellow striped wires on any one of the coils. If you're testing it on a lift in your garage, won't work. You need to take it on the road. Also....do you possibly have your one-way valves in the vacuum pick up installed backward. I assume you did install them, if not....start there.

You have to use a canister to get enough vacuum for the cruise to work.  I tried to run without one as well and the cruise would not work.

I hooked into all 6 for vac and have no need for a cannister. I don't know if just two will work. Or 4. But 6 sure does.  I doubt whether just 2 will work.

Can you hear the relay working when you hit the brake? It should make an audible click inside as the electromagnet operates.

Also, don't overlook the obvious. Mine stopped working right after I hooked it up and I found the wire clip that hooks my rear brake pedal to the nearby switch had come off. That happens pretty easily on Valks. Now when my cruise stops working I know that clip came off and my brake light isn't working.

I tee'd into the front two vac lines, and worked the cruise fine.

I used two intakes for vacuum as did MP and Alph, both of which worked fine for them. Yes, I used the one-way vacuum pieces and installed as directed. I was thinking this morning that maybe the problem was that they are backwards, but I really doubt it. If I need to, I will check to make sure they're right.

I'll check to see if the relay is normally open or closed, I just assumed it was closed. I'll also check for the click when I hit the brakes.

My brake lights are working, so it shouldn't be the clip.

I tested the cruise by riding, not sitting on a stand.

Toss in any other ideas, I'll be looking into it this afternoon.

Pull the hose off the back of the carb and try sucking on it. If you can on both, then the valves are backward.

Just finished installing my CC on my 2000 I/S and had to use the canister.  Would not engage with 2 vacuum lines directly, but it did when I added the canister. Both the canister and the servo are in the fairing mounted above the headlights.

Just got it fixed. I tried to engage the cruise with the front brake pulled and it worked just fine! It turns out that the relay I used was normally open and, when the brake was pulled, it closed the circuit and allowed the cruise to engage. Switching to a 5-pin relay and wiring as instructed got everything working correctly.

As an aside, it is a pain to figure out if a relay is open or closed unless you have a diagram to work with. You would think they would label them better.

Thanks for the advice.

i'd say you'll have to tie all your carbs together and use a canister......  that'll always work!!  Cheesy
