Greetings all,

Can't believe it, my wife actually said that she had been thinking about taking a ride with me up into the mountains. Anyway, can someone give me a little insight on the Blue Ridge Parkway ride in Sept?
Where does it start/end, # of days, very many bikes attend? Or just what ever?
I thought this may be a good ride to take her on.
Appreciate in insight,
 Smiley

I'm the one putting this ride on we've done it a couple times with the VRCC and I've rode the entire 469 miles several times over the years. I'll try to get my ducks in a line and post some details soon. You are not the only one wanting information on this ride.

Don't think I'll make the Sept. ride Bro but the O'l & I are lookin to ride the entire BRP the last weekend of this month. (Sat. thru Tue., the 28th's my birthday, took a 4 day weekend.)
Starting from the southern end in Cherokee NC. (not sure yet what time).
You're welcome to join or meet up somewhere.
We're gonna camp it if I can get the trailer hitch and wiring done this weekend.
Give us a holla if interested. DG & Missy, (a.k.a. Mr. Whiskey & Sugar) at (865) 973-6179, Peace.

I'd love to hook up and show you around the VA section of the BRP. But the only day that I have open is the 27th.

If you plan on camping check out Willville Motorcycle Campground:

http://www.willvillebikecamp.com/

It's a motorcycle only campground located just off the BRP at MM 177.

If you have any questions about the VA section of the BRP feel free to ask.

I've ridden the BRP from south to north and north to south 6 times.

I've also ridden various sections of the BRP many times.

If you and your wife like trees, scenery and long range vistas then get on your bike and ride.

The BRP is a beautiful Appalachian slinky that will leave you speechless.

Been thinking of taking the wife down skyline and the BRP.   If I start in Front Royal how far can we get in a day just crusing along?  How long to do both? I rode skyline from front royal to Virginia exit 33 on the way to the Hillbilly ride it was awsome. cooldude

It all depends upon your speed and how many overlooks you stop at.

http://www.ncnatural.com/Parkway/MilebyMile.html

300 miles in a day is do able BUT you want to be OFF the BRP before dusk. The amount of deer that appear is downright scary.

The Skyline Drive covers apx 100 mi from Front Royal, VA to the Begining of the Blue Ridge Parkway near Waynesboro, VA.

I would allow at least 5 hrs to ride the Skyline Drive:

With the speed limit being 35 mph and considering that you would probably want to stop and smell the roses some 5 hrs is about the minimum amount of time needed to ride it.

You'll need another 3 hrs to ride the BRP from Waynesboro, VA to Roanoke, VA (MM 106-120).

This means that you would need a full day to ride the Skyline Drive and cover the first 120 miles of the BRP.

Of course the more that you want to sight see the longer you will need.

Roanoke, VA to Ashville, NC is apx 268 miles. That is do able in a day but it makes for a long day especially when you figure taking in the sights as well.

It is approximately another 200 miles from Asheville, NC to the end of the BRP near Cherokee, NC.
This is also do able in a day but can make for a long day.

So, you most likely would need 3 days to do a "whirlwind" tour of both the Skyline Drive and the BRP.

Or you could break the BRP up into 3 days and have time to "smell" the roses.

When were you thinking about riding the BRP?

PM me if you'd like, I'd be glad to share some wind with you on the VA section if I'm off.

Thanks for the info. I'm thinking some time in Sept. I can go up to Virgina and see  my sister and family and then follow the BRP down from there. Hope the timing will work out to go on the VRCC ride with SmokingJoe but not sure how the scedule will pan out.
Here's for hoping and praying for this to work out!!! cooldude
