I don't know if ya'll have noticed, but there are a lot of first time posters in the classifieds with no history and no one knows. There are a lot of scammers and when I see Posts:1, I wonder. I like to deal with people that's been on the board a while amd made a few posts. But that's just me.

Most forums I've been on, you had to have a certain number before you could. uglystupid2

Is that something the Admin Gurus could help with? Maybe a minimum membership time or a minimum number of posts before being able to post to the Classifieds? Try to thin the potential of a scammer getting through?

Some of us dont post every day, I dont type just to see it on the board, some I think do it just to have their post numbers high. I have been a member for a long while, dont post much, and dont feel that should be a requriment just to sell something, Bought my first Valk in 99 and have had 7 total, dont change things just to change them, I havent heard of trouble with people being scammed, on the classifieds ,  I visit the site every night.

What you folks fail to realize, is that the VRCC is much larger than the few thousand folks who have signed up here on the message board.  Our member database(VRCC Members, not message board)  has swelled to way past 30,000 since the VRCC began.   The Classifieds is a service to the VRCC membership and when we moved it from the old format to the message board area there are many folks who have used the classifieds for years but have never even visited the message board.  We've also had folks who were regulars 10 years ago, who recently decided to sell a Valk or other related parts.  Now they have to sign up, verify that they have a valid email address before they can post anything.  Could a scam artist get in and post on the classifieds?  Sure they could.  But we try our best to keep the scum away.  Thats why you always have to be very careful when dealing with other human beings via the internet.  If it smells fishy, it probably is.

Our policies for the Classifieds will be evolving as all things do.  Placing a restriction on who can post ads based on post count probably won't be one of them.  We're not ebay.  We're not a mass marketplace for selling everything.  We're a free club who has a place for our members to buy/sell their Valkyrie related stuff.

If you don't want to do business with someone who signed up to post an ad, there is nothing wrong with that.

I don't post everyday and understand what you're saying. But you've been a member since March 2009 so that alone would be fine with me. For instance a guys got an IS for sale with 1 post and joined 6 days ago and I'm sure he's fine cause he's asking too much for the bike. I am also getting con artists from all over the world that can barley speak english.  I have some "want' ads now in the classifieds and want to know how much I vant fur dem!  2funny

Something does need to be done to stop the one time wonders. Wink

I have seen ads, for some Valk owner who has recently passed, his kids trying to sell his Valk. What better place to sell a nice Valk, than here? Why should WE miss out, because they have just found the site?

If you had a Valk to sell, for WHATever reason, and did a google search, it would lead you to VRCC. Just because they sign up, merely to sell a Valk, doesn't make them bad people...we ALL had our "first day here" at one time or another.

As was mentioned, don't want to respond? Don't.

Good point, I hadn't thought about it that way. BTW, Peter55 has a beautiful blue and silver I/S if you're in the market for one. It's in the the new classifieds. cooldude

As I said once before, Some one in the club lives near someone selling something. If there was something for sale in my area, I will go look at it for you and give my best opinion. I am not saying all the ads are scams, but in this group, there is always someone near by. If we work together, and eliminate a scam, we all win. An honest seller will not mind.

I bought a complete set of like new side covers from a one time poster in AZ.  Called and talked to the husband.  He said I needed to deal with his wife (I think she's the one that put up the ad) as he didn't do computers.  Turned out to be nice folks and I got a complete three piece set of side covers that looked brand new.   cooldude

I thought that the old classifieds where going to be shut down.......but there's still people posting on there with new ads.  Is there going to be two classified sections now.

There are some points to consider.

1.  The member's info is on the left.  If you're suspicious of what you see you can check the info at the profile.  If you find you're unable to trust the seller, don't buy.  If you find you're unable to trust a buyer, don't sell.

2.  If you place an ad you're not obligated to include your email address.  Mention that you'll receive responses by P.M. and you'll be assured that whoever contacts you will be a board member.  Once more, if you're suspicious, check the respondent's profile info.

3.  Scammers don't generally post ads.  They very often respond to ads.  We've given you the means to avaoid that.  Keep in mind that anyone on the net can still read the Classifieds.

4.  It's more meaningful when you complain that some can barely speak English if you'll properly spell the words of your complaint.

5.  I do personally assume that someone who has posted only a few times (the count is there on the post) likely registered specifically to post an ad.  Do what you think best with that info.

Yeah I believe the vast majority are honest people. I paid about $900 for a set of Ultimates with no problems. It's only a very small percentage of fraud or believe me the whole board would be raising cane and wanting blood!! 2funny

That's true and very nice of the members to do that and I would do the same in my area. But how about that poor person that lives say in Montana or other places out west that lives 500 miles from the nearest town? As I said before, it's a very small percentage and really nothing to worry about. As stated before, if you don't have a good feeling about it, stay away!
