Any one took a ride out there? Been to Big Bend 3 times and Davis Mountains once. Any tips as to camp sites, gas stations, motels, place to get something to eat? Pertaining to the Guadalupe Mountains. I relealise that it is pretty desolate. But, that is Texas and that is why I am going.

went out there in a cage a few years back. Not much out there. I think Carlsbad NM is not too far. I believe El Capitan is the highest peak in Tx. Check out the salt flats in the area. Ride safe

Guadalupe Peak is the highest point in Texas, right behind El Capitain...

I've set a personal goal to climb to the top of Guadalupe Peak in the next year...

The image in my avatar is on I believe Highway 54 heading north outta Van Horn towards El Capitan (Guadalupe is right behind it, but not visible in the picture)

Unless you're into hiking and climbing mountains, there's not a lot to see or do in Guadalupe from the saddle of a street bike... As was mentioned Carlsbad Caverns is very close, and if you haven't been there I'd HIGHLY recommend going to the caverns...

Carlsbad, NM is pretty much the closest civilization to Guadalupe National Park... Not sure on campgrounds, as I consider staying at a Motel 6 "Camping"... Wink

Hey hueco,

Hueco Tanks State Park is about 70mi towards El Paso from the Guadalupe Mountains National Park.  Pretty cool place.

Did a shoot out there years ago with a bunch of Miss USA contestants. coolsmiley

Well, it was "work". Cool

We also shot the swimsuit stuff out by some beautiful coral colored sand dunes out near El Paso.  I don't remember the name or location because we were all bused out there.  It was 104, so they kept the girls in the air conditioned buses until the last minute to keep them cool.  We didn't have to worry about sweat because it would evaporate before it accumulated...FYI, there's a lot of duct tape and double stick spray under those swimsuits...I'll leave it to you to guess what went where.
