No, no racing today although did beat a custom 120" hardtail in line during a poker run yesterday. But I digress...Took the bike to Kits bosses house for a going away party for some x'change students. Get on the highway 4 miles from where we live and crank up the throttle. Kits enjoying herself back there by singing and dancing and a occasion hug and kiss. Up the hill I see a State Trooper coming at us. I look at my radar and its going wild. Well to late to slow down now. I cant hear it beep due to both my ears are plugged from a current tonselitis I got going for me. I see him flip a bitch and come back. Heck with it, I see the house, and throttle steady for home. Kit gives me another hug and kiss and I say 'you know that cop is pulling us over dont ya?' She didnt know. I put signal on and he hits his lights. Pull into the driveway enough for him to fit. Cant find neutral so I just shuther down telling her to set on the bike. He walks up and introduces himself. I said 'yes I know him'. ID and reg please. I tell him I am armed and he says I can see that. Reach into my vest and give him my ID and he says 'oh I know you but didnt recognize you with stuff on.' Told him reg is in the bag and she will need to step off. He said ok and Kit says 'I am also armed but its on my right side.' He says ok and she gets off giving him her DL and LTCH. She said the look in his face when she told him she was also armed priceless. It was like a christ you gotta be kidding me look. lol He gives her stuff back right away and goes to run my stuff. Comes back with a warning and says to enjoy our day. I ask how fast and he said I was doing 70 in a 55. Huh, that speedo is right on today.  Undecided I said we are already home! He laughs and I say thx. I tell Kit its her fault since she was having fun it gets me pulled over. She was mad cause I have been pulled over x3 including 2 for speed and never got a ticket. Its good to know people!

My wingman is a cop. It helps a lot when you feel like getting stupid. Though The Valk has tamed me quite a bit.

Now I've been telling my wife the speedo is off (high) approx 10%. I even showed her another thread that mentioned non-Harley bikes' speedos are off. I've about convinced her when the speedo says 80, it is really low 70's.

Now I read yours is on. I am not telling her.

I am curious to find out how accurate the speedos are but without getting a ticket!  Grin

I thought so to. The last time I was stopped, by another Trooper  Roll Eyes , he clocked me at 82 in a 55. My speedo read 88ish. I looked down when I saw him that time to and tried to out run him. He caught me faster then I thought he would.  Evil

My IS is also off 5 mph.  When I am doing 60 mph the garmin is showing 55 mph.  I thought it was just my bike.

On another note, any know if you can get nicer looking gauges for the IS.  Ones that will display the correct speed.  Even digital ones would be nice.

If you want accuracy, and much more, try one of these.
I've had one of these on my Valk for over 10 years and I use it as my primary speedometer. I seldom look at the factory speedo unless I'm going seriously fast and I glance at the big one to get an idea.

The bicycle computer keeps track of the overall odometer, the trip odo, total time the wheels have been turning (minus stopped during the trip) fastest speed attained (locked in) and a few more goodies like average speed. When you install it you program it with information about the circumference of the tire and you can get the program down to serious accuracy.

The information posted below if from the Rattlebars page and provides some installation instructions. I have even deeper instructions about accuracy programming if anybody

Here's another link for ideas on mounting and installing the bicycle speedo.

There's many more around the web.

AFter poking around the net I've found many other models of bicycle trip computers that will register speeds up to 199 mph besides the Sigma 800. The information posted earlier is out of date as far as it being the only model capable. Here's just one other. If you plan on installing one of these you might want to do your own research and choose one to your liking.

Thanks guys.  Can any of these use my IS existing magnetic pickup or should I use another magnet.  Does the magnet add any appreciable weight that I would feel in the back.
