I'll be riding my I/S (2 1/2 years since last riding it), and Damselfly is riding her classic custom GoldWing. Our daughter is serving an internship for the Dept. of Energy at the Fermi National Labratories in Batavia.
It is about 300 miles, so Aleve and Mineral Ice will be in my saddlebags. Looking forward to this ride, as it will be the longest M/C trip since my last surgery. I need milege therapy so that I can start to feel like myself again.
There is a "Rib Fest" in Naperville and there will be two of our favorite 70s bands featured; they are REO Speedwagon and Styx.
We will be coming home Tuesday. Seems like it's going to an interesting Indepedence Day weekend.

Ride safe Momz! Rib Fest is fun but expect very large crowds if the weather holds out!
All the best,
Mark

Roadkill, I always chase Damselfly,...and sometimes she lets me catch her too!
Chicago Mark, Crowds? I hope the traffic near Gary IN and Chi-town are acceptable.

Hey MOMZ, if ya get a chance, the next town over(Lisle) has Eyes To The Sky hot air ballon launch over the weekend as well (the evening launch is pretty cool). As far as that traffic request, well..........................if you DON'T hit stop and go traffic then buy a lotto ticket as your lucky rabbits foot is working!! ENJOY!

We got to Naperville much later than we'd expected due to big time traffic jams throughout Indiana, but the rain and lightning were extreme. There was so much lightning everywhere (in front of us above us, on both sides and in our rear view mirrors). The rain and lightning would make Daniel Meyer proud!
All through the rain I kept the REO song "Riding the Storm Out" playing in my head. A at Rib Fest REO Speedwagon ended their concert with "Riding the Storm Out"; and my daugter, Damselfly, and I were just about in tears. It was so appropriate that that band is a favorite of our entire family and it ended with that tune.
So far it's been a challenge and great to see our daughter again.
Yep, life's good

Hows the rib fest? We just had it over here in Ft Wayne 2 weeks ago. It was great. She got ribs and I the pulled pork from 'Cowboys' from Tx. To die for. Kit loves REO. She was ready to head over and watch'm. You think going out to Ill was bad wait till you come back!

The Rib Fest was sold out Saturday so we hung out with our daughter and went for a Thai dinner in downtown Naperville. It is a very pedestran friendly city, so the residence and tourists alike stroll the streets and sit in the outdoor consessions.
There were a lot of motorcycles everywhere, and as a matter of fact I spotted four Valks, all black standards ridden by both old and young riders.
Styx was the featured band Saturday night and we reallky wanted to hear their concert but did not want to fight the crowds. We parked our bikes at a Methodist church and walked about a quarter mile to the tennis courts just outside the Rib Fest grounds; there were bleachers that were in line with the stage. We were able to enjoy the entire concert without fighting the crowds within the Fest and we were also able to get out of town before the traffic got ridiculous.
Life is good, and even better on a motorcycle!
