Side stand spring bolt broke

Now, if a metric class 10.9 bolt (check the head) is available, I'll get that one. Metric 10.9 is roughly equivalent to SAE grade 8.
That 8.8 bolt was what the dealer gave me. I think they felt bad about not having the part in stock so didn't charge me. It had the exact same threads and length as the OEM part.
When I got home, I had some plastic tubing on the bench that fit tightly over the bolt. So I cut about a 1-1/2" piece and added the two washers, and it was nearly a perfect match.
Using the nickels (I used washers) is nearly a must. That spring is so stiff that I couldn't stretch it with any tool I had laying around. So, I bent the spring back and forth, inserting washers into the gaps until it was long enough. As I remember they all fell out when I stretched the spring with the stand.
