OK, about a month ago, I was cleaning my bike, on the left outside rear of the cylinder cover there was a oily like film streak running vertically only on that corner of the cover. I checked under for signs of a leak, saw nothing.
Fast forward to this morning, getting off the bike at work, I saw the same thing, again, no sign of anything leaking on top og the cover. Anyone have any ideas?

Cylinder cover may be the wrong term for the cover you're talking about. The large chrome side cover is the cam cover. If that's the one, you might post a photo to help figure it out. The cam cover is gasketed with rubber/neoprene gaskets. Maybe a loose bolt or the gasket slipped a bit.

I'm not quite sure what you mean.. Where does this streak start and end.. I guess I'm assuming that you are talking about the valve cover and not the cam cover.. If it doesn't seem to start from any specific area related to an engine gasket and its at the rear left corner of the engine, maybe, its a fuel leak..

It's probably just weeping very slowly and air at speed is spreading it out. Look again after the bike's been sitting for a while.

What a difficult thing to do!
Finding out what the streak is would be helpful.
It could be antifreeze from a loose connection, remember that that side is down when the bike is on the stand. Could have run across the top of the radiator too, coming from a poorly performing radiator cap.
It could also be clutch master cylinder Dot-4 fluid, a drop from there is also a possibility.
Motor oil is also a possibility, but I think it would continue doing so and reveal itself pretty easily.
Another possibility and not so remote is that it could be a bug that was smashed leaving it's bodily fluids.
I would say it is no real problem since the source is not been found and it has not reappeared.
Keep an eye on it is the best thing to do.

Yep..I like that thought...had a similar issue with mine, funny how the air moving in and around the engine will impact a weeping leak.

OK, went out at lunch, parked under a shady tree and found absolutely nothing... Checked every thing that could possibly leak with a white soft cloth and nodda... So I will continue to watch for signs of anything...replaced the shifter seal last September...first one lasted 11 years...and only knew that was bad when it piddled on the garage floor. I wear tan pants when I ride to work and not oil or residue on pant leg...

Your discription of where the oil was seen is obscure, but it sounds just like how mine was doing when a couple of the valve cover bolts were leaking. mine only did it at freeway speeds, like 75mph or higher. I ordered the rubber bushing gasket thinggys and all is well now
