Just wondering if anyone is aware of any middle school (6-10th grade) Student Counselor positions available /open in your neck of the woods.  My niece just graduated from Michigan State University with a Masters and is looking for a Student Counselor job with little or no luck in Michigan.  She is mobile and anxious to get to work in the field she has be training/studying for the last couple of years.  I know it's a long shot but thought I'd check here to see if there might be something available outside of Michigan.

TIA  !!

Around here most of the school counselors start out as substitute counselors and then get to know some of the Principals and other full time counselors.  When a position opens up it is usually one of the substitute counselors who get it.

My niece just graduated Central last year, and no teaching jobs in the State for her.  She got hired in Las Vegas.

I know a guy that just retired as a guidance counselor with Evanston schools in Illinois. His name is Rich Pope.  richpope45@gmail.com.  I don't know if he can or will help.  But, it might be worth a try.  Tell him Dick Brandt sent you.  Or, if you want me to introduce you, send me a letter at dick.brandt@gmail.com.  I will forward it to him with comments.  BTW, his brother Dan retired from being a parole officer in Flint, Mi.  Not directly related, but he might know someone, also.  I don't have his email.

Dick,

Thank-you for the kind offer...I'll pass it along to my niece....she's on a family vacation in northern MI and I'm sure out of computer contact so it will probably be at least a week before she has a chance to read my email with you r message.

Appreciate the the response..... cooldude

I work as a bus driver in Scottsdale, AZ. Those positions seem to change yearly. Try www.susd.org to apply. Also the cities of Mesa and Phoenix. State retirement is pretty good.
