Busting the myth that Kansas is as flat as a pancake...
August 19th, 20th, 21st!
Ground Zero will be Wamego Kansas.
Come join us for a late summer ride through the rolling Flint Hills and beautiful Kaw Valley. If you're up for it we will show you Both of the curves in Kansas, and two of the three hills as well.
Wamego has two motels and a Bed & Breakfast, I will be happy to arrange a room block if there is interest. Camping is also available either at nearby lakes or Roadkill's place. (We might even find accommodations for one or two of the more well mannered members inside if you wish).
The loose agenda for the weekend will be a BS session Friday to kick tires and tell lies, an informal breakfast Saturday morning (Biscuits & Gravy, probably some pancakes, sausage/bacon maybe even a few eggs. We'll see) Then we will have a short pre-ride and then take off for a nice ~140 mile cruise through the heartland.
There will be a fuel stop along the way for those who are fuel capacity challenged followed by a late lunch (location to be revealed later, we are still arguing over two very nice places)
Still working on a plan for Saturday evening, but there is plenty to do and see if you are so inclined.
Local attractions:
The OZ Museum! See one of the largest collections of Wizard of OZ memorabilia in the country. Don't want to pay to see the full exhibit? Check out the museum gift shop for some fun and interesting gifts.
OZ Winery! Sample some locally produced wine, but not a lot if you are planning to ride! They also have some fun and funky gifts.
Want to see a Sicilian villa but don't want to pay for the flight? Check out the Ditto-Leach house a couple of blocks from downtown. It's not open to the public but you can still admire it from the sidewalk.
Wamego also has the Historic Columbian Theater
http://columbiantheatre.com/calendar/default.asp and a beautiful city park with a pond, picnic tables and historic Dutch windmill.
Wamego is just 15 minutes east of Manhattan and about 40 west of Topeka.
