Arizona or on the road

« on: July 08, 2011, 10:23:48 AM »

Outran two big storms on monday..  7pm left home heading to farside phx just as the begining of a dust storm rolled in. Got outta the predust storm onto the rez and could see it to my left about a mile high wall of brown and a bit ahead of me. I hit the throttle determined to get ahead of it. started to turn left to head to the freeway and decided the storm might make it to the onramp before me so stayed on the rez. Got a lil further and yea about where i would have got on the freeway was all brown about a mile or so to my left. Went a lil further and Oh Hell the wall of dust is comming over the lil mountian to my left and comming at me! Jumped on the throttle and outaran that damn dust storm WOW what a RUSH!   Ok made it to Bills got a few things fixed on the Valk and it started getting a lil windy so i hit the road heading home. A few spots on the way home got quite windy and i could see some lightning here and there... Got close to home off the freeway back onto the rez and it started sprinkling and did so the rest of the way home. Got home and bill sent a few txts wanting to know if i was alright. I quess right after i left his place a thunder storm and rain came in and was blowing stuff over and thrashed his neighbor hood,, Wheww  out ran two storms that day.  8-)

Wow, Kendall...
That storm was a MONSTER! The dust was 5,000 feet high, 100 to 150 miles wide, travelling at 50-60 miles an hour!  It split off at one point, going NW and SW of phoenix.

Bill is lives close to my house.  You are one crazy guy, outriding it. When it hit, it was about 106 degrees! I'd have had heat stroke riding in that tempurature.

Shingles blew off my roof and the next morning my patio/back yard was covered with a thick blanket of dust.  Used the blower and then had to hose EVERYTHING down. No kidding...even the plants!

Haven't been keeping up with everything here for awhile.  How is Dez's Dad?
