Al I totally believe the story

I once represented an elderly couple who sold their home in the Bronx to move upstate with their daughter.

The mortgage was paid off at closing

CHASE was the bank that got paid off.

Six months after closing I got a hysterical call from the wife

CHASE was suing them for foreclosure....on the very mortgage they had been paid in full

I tried to call and explain and was told incredibly that I was wrong

CHASE had to pay my clients a substantial sum for the error as I counterclaimed immediately for abuse of process and malicious prosecution showing the court the pay off letter, cancelled check and paid title bill.

Last year I had another family come to me with the same story

I would imagine there are other stories out there

Hope the young man files his lawsuit already, he deserves better than he got.

I saw the news story on this and I think that he and his lawyer is going to do quite well when it is all worked out.  They have a long history of Chase screwing people.

Its the banks in general. Last year the wife and i paid off our 2003 jeep grand cherokee. Got the h a guy thankyou letter and title from the bank to prove it. 2 mos later  I catch a repo guy in my driveway loading up the truck as Im leaving for work. Blocked him in so he couldnt leave, called the cops and showed everybody the lien free title. The repo guy left, but spent the next 3 days hovering while we fought with the bank that sent us the thankyou letter, and the title, telling them that they were paid off.  Gotta love it when the right hand doesnt know what the left is doing. The finance division didnt tell the payment division that we had paid it off so the payment division put it up for repo. To top it all off after we get that sorted out, the repo company sends us a bill for fees for their drivers time..... tickedoff

You owe them nothing.  The bank hired them, the bank owes them.  Ask the repo company to produce a document with your (or wife's) signature securing their services (of course none exists).  And tell them if they enter a bad mark on your credit report you'll sue them and win (including your attorney fees).

The Republicans in Congress want to reduce bank regulation.  With horror shows like this, you think it's a good idea?

Better yet, Let's pass a bill that makes them give mortgages to people who can't afford to pay them off.... oh wait, they already tried that, which party was that again???

Hell yes it's a good Idea!  Get the crooked Government out of the business of the crooked banks so we can see which crooks we are dealing with !More Government regulation will just make it MORE corrupt !
