Just got back from a 500km ride on my 2000 tourer after installing a pair of 44o's and all I can say is-WOW!!!, what a difference!! The ride is smoother, the road snakes don't make the bike wander, even low speed handling is better. No bottoming out either. Should have done this years ago- Thanks, Paul, for the smokin' deal!

Sidecarrick, can you tell us how many miles were on the OEM shocks you replaced and what condition were the bushings in on the old shocks?
I'm just wondering if worn bushings (or shocks) could have been at least part of the cause of the wandering. Tar snakes have caused me some discomfort but I always thought it was tire related. I'd describe the tar snake feeling as more of a momentary traction change.

The shocks had 50,000km on them but the aftermarket bushings had only 15,000 on them. Uppers were good, but lowers were pretty shot. All I know for sure is that the Valk handles like a sportbike now. I can hardly wait for winter, so I can replace the front springs with progressive as well.

I have about 68,000 on the 440IS HD's and Progressives up front too. Love the handling. I need to remember to check my bushings soon, I think they're the ones that came with the Progressives.

one of the best improvements I've made to my bike...almost 11 years ago now.  The fork springs, combined with the Lamonster risers, made the bike handle much better.

Enjoy...and remember to save the original sales receipt.  If you ever need warranty (lifetime) on the 440s and you don't have the receipt you will be S.O.L..

So is the replacement procedure just a simple bolt off/bolt on?

+1  cooldude You definitely need the fork springs too! I just rode the Dragon last weekend on mine and like you said - WOW! Best upgrade I ever made.

It's that easy for the shocks!

I found the HD 440 springs were way better for me. I'm 220 lbs. No adjustment when I ride with my 100 lb wife.
