Beautiful east Tennessee ( GOD'S Country )

« on: July 09, 2011, 05:52:35 PM »

We rolled out fairly early this morning in order to miss the Pigeon Forge-Gatlinburg traffic . Crossed The Great Smoky Mountains and hit The Blue Ridge Parkway . It was cool in the mountains this morning in fact I got cold until we dropped off into Ashville, NC. We had 9 bikes show up for the ride this morning 4 Valkyries 2 Harley 2 Goldwing and a KLR 650.Strider made a post to me this morning about some low-life redneck rippin' the highest point sign down it was no doubt destoryed  Sad  The stone work had stood since the early 50's .

Finally got to share the wind with Whiskey and Sugar  cooldude  DG and I had done some tradin' in the past but today was the first time we've rode together.

We hooked up with Ronnie ( Normandog ) at the highest point this morning and had a nice ride with him into Asheville for lunch at Cracker Barrel.Photo Ronnie and Big Al.

Saw a couple cool homemade VW trikes today at Newfound Gap.I've always liked these and I've looked at several over the years just never pulled the trigger and bought one.

Outstanding ride today with some good riders the weather was almost perfect for July in the south.

Below is " The Money Shot " taken at the what once was the highest point sign on The Blue Ridge Parkway  Sad  Probably the hardest work this prick that did this has ever done tearing this down...Very sad  Sad  Be sure to check the link Warren ( Strider) sent me this morning before we rode out.

Why would anyone do this?

I was raised to respect places like this.

The Smoky Mountains are almost a Spiritual Place, and I don't even like to even pick up a pine cone

or disturb the nature of anything that is in it.

Lack of respect for these treasures is a symptom of our society in general.

Why is beyond me.

That the sign was ripped out of place and the stonework destroyed.

It's a good world we live in, with a few sorry people in it.

Nice pics and ride, i am envious.  What a shame about the sign.  What a jerk(s).

My grandmother used to live in Asheville, so I have had a chance to see a bit of that area many moons ago.

Kinda like the idiots around here who have burned a few of our covered bridges. No sense can be made of it. No logic can explain it. I always figure it's a methhead/moron thing.

Glad you all had a good time... A damn shame what the losehole did to the monument.

Definition: Losehole; pronounced, (Luuz-hoe-el)   Combination of "Loser" and "Azzhole" ... coined by my son when he was young as we would not allow swearing in his formative years.  We laughed hard the first time we heard him use it and it stuck for years.

There are certain individuals that it applies too ... and this losehole is definitely one of them.

Moron, more like it. They burned all the covered bridges in South Carolina (except one) before
they even invented meth  Sad ...

I saw the 2 trikes come through Deals Gap.

I hope they catch the wanker who trashed the sign and squeeze his nuts in a vice.

WHat if it was a Woman Britman?

I am just saying.

Not likely, they don't have the benefit(LACK OF JUDGEMENT AT TIMES) that comes with Testosterone.

But It could have been.

Just to let everyone know that I made it home safe last night.  Got in about 9:30 pm.  Had stopped in Findlay, OH to have supper with a friend.

left out Sunday and did half of the Snake, Hwy 16 all the way up into West Virgina, then stayed on back roads to Charleston WVA.  Then cut across OH to Findlay, and then the final hour on I-75 to Monroe MI.

I love Hwy 16, and found the fourth set of hills that it went over when I hit WVA.

I did 754 miles Sunday and all totaled 1671 miles for the weekend.  Thanks Joe for the great ride on Saturday and to all who rode.

Another great ride to one of my very favorite places: The Blue Ridge Parkway!  I taught a class this weekend but did ride to class.  It never fails that the students fall in love with the Fat Girl. And when I start it up they go crazy.  She is an awesome bike!  I have to put a new tire on the front and install new front brake pads for the ride to Bellaire in a couple weeks.  Looking forward to doing nothing but riding for a few days.
