I have been getting aquainted with my new-to-me Valkyrie Cruiser, and rode some 1500 miles this week.  Smiley Nice bike!

But I noticed something odd on the old Dunlop 404's that came with the bike. The chicken strips are wider on the front than on the back. They are about 1" wide on the front and 0.5" wide on the back. How can this be? Might my tires be mis-matched? Or is this normal?

I can't get the front ones down less than that either. The pegs drag before that part of the tyre gets any use.

Same here, I can get the rear's to about 1/4", never the fronts. Just the geometry of the beast.

I use Dunlop E-3 front and back and have no problem with wearing the front tire almost to the edges, its not the bike

A few things come to my mind why this might be (other than being the chicken like me).

Progressive front springs lower the bike a bit, are the forks slipped up in the triple tree a little, are the rear shock stock and gone bad or have they been replaced with something of a different height than stock???? Lower or higher air pressure in the tire also effects this topic.

These will all lower the bike and give you less ground clearance and in turn reduce the total lean angle that the bike and rider can achieve.

Higher sitting bike more potential for lean angle and that means you can get the bike over farther and get closer to the tires edges.

Or you might ride like me and just not lean that far,,, or you could be like somebody right above me here... Yah you I am talking about you, you beast of a rider.. LOL!!!!

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

Chicken strips?  ???

Chick-uhn strips - the part of a tire that Joe May lacks...

Here's a picture of my chicken strips from a couple of years ago...

I remember walking the parking lots at the last Johnson City InZane with Frank Smoak
making all kinds of silly editorial remarks about people's chicken strips...

Tire profile plays a BIG role in chicken stripes...

As does being a chicken...  crazy2

I just got back from riding the Snake and Dragon on my also new to me I/S and have the same difference on my E3's.  Thought it was odd as well - must be 'normal'?
I just had the fork seals replaced and used 10 wt oil with stock springs and had the rear shocks set on 3.  Carried average gear and my carcass of 230#s.

Well, So.....just got back from a morning ride to church and back........you may say beast of a rider.....well I dont know about that.  I live in Florida where our best road has 11 curves in 318 miles.  but where we do have some curves I like it.  Ive been to the Dragon, the Snake and the BRP, twisties are fun for me, I understand they arent for everyone.  I just took this pic to illustrate my statement, this E-3 has 20K miles on it, stays inflated to 40psi and it grabs just fine for me....I have no complaints, its about 1/4" from the end

PS I had to put new batteries in the camera to take this picture, and I set the date wrong.......its corrected now........LOL

It must be a tyre shape thing then. My Metz would have about the same usage width, but it doesn't have the ridge at the end of the tread, and appears to be more 'rounded' in profile. If I could take a pic it would be clearer, but I can't, so you'll just have to take my word for it.  Wink

Hey AssieValk. Be sure you don't have a tire on the front and tyre in the back. Just thinking that mixing them up that way might cause your problem.
You might also check to see if your bike has been recalibrate for a counter clockwise Coriolis effect.

Ahhh, the Coriolis Effect.........that would explain the excessive wear on the RHS of the tyre then.  Cheesy Grin
