Help!!!  I bought a 1997 Standard last October. It was not running well so a few months ago I had all the fluids flushed and replaced. New tune up. New tires. Valves adjusted etc. 15000 miles. Runs great now except when it warms up or about 15-20 miles the clutch slips pretty badly. The clutch plates are like new. The clutch piston was replaced. The recevoir rebuilt etc. The clutch spring disc is new. Dispite all this it still slips significantly once it is warmed up????  Any ideas?????  It has been layed up all summer and would like to have it working for Sturgis but we cannot figure out what the problem could be. Even the Honda mechanic is scratching his head.

if it has friction modifiers, is energy conserving, etc. it is not correct for wet clutch applications.

I suggest taking it back to the dealer regardless!

They screwed up and are responsible to get it corrected.

Now, here's one possible reason: The oil you have in the bike. If the dealer put their oil in your bike you are blameless. If instead you chose the oil, the oil could be the problem and the dealer will surely blame you for using an incorrect oil.

Secondly, get a commitment from the dealer regarding when they will take the bike and also when you will get the bike back in good running order.

Make the dealer promise you a loaner if they fail to fulfill their promise made to you. The do have loaners and/or rentals which to you should be free.

Being upfront with the dealer and explaining your dilemma is the best approach.

Do you have any free-play in the lever/pushrod ?? You don't need or have much, but, there must be some free-play between the clutch lever push-rod and the master cylinder piston. Lets start with the easy stuff..

Levers is what came to my mind 1st thing, but get that oil changed to a GOOD oil. Amsoil motorcycle oil, Mobil 1 20/50. These are all exspensive and getting hard to find oils. Sometimes/most of the time you have to do it yourself. Dealers/Stealers suck. Sorry id not trust them. As you read on this forum that is most riders opinion.

Oil is a possible culprit. But are the plates possible glazed? I once had a similar issue with the clutch in my ZX7 and it turned out the friction plates "polished" instead of wearing properly. I took em out, roughed em up and they were fine after that.
