I finally did a desmog (chasing a decel pop).  Took the bike off the jack when done then out for a ride.  The kind of ride you take when testing performance after a change like that.

I forgot to remove the jack adapter.   Shocked  It's the large red iron one that is temporarily mounted using the casting holes (not the perm on bike one).

I shudder to think what might have happened had that come loose.   angel   Next time I use it I'm going to tie a string from the adapter and wrap it around my clutch so that _never_ happens again.

It's a good thing I tighten that up good.  Someone was looking out for me.

I have a buddy (who shall remain nameless) who did the same thing except the adapter did fall off.  He didn't go down, but it was a helluva ride and awfully hard on the brand new rear tire...

Boy can I relate to this

Took my girl in for some work at a independent shop.

Picked 'er up and stopped for a cool drink and noticed the red adapter hanging on there still. Embarrassed

Luckily it was on there tight.

Rolled back to the shop and the owner almost had a heart attack. Me too!!

No harm no foul, but a lesson learned!

I rolled mine off the jack, late for the FCR two years ago... I rode it over the hill to Clayton ga, all the way to Franklin,
then at speed through traffic on  a curvy mountain highway towards Cherokee... then I pulled off at a
gas stop, and when I came to a full stop in front of the pump... CLANK. it fell off.

That's three states... in the mountains...

Someone was looking out for me

I had a similar experience, pulled up to the pump, filled up and then started forward and she would not go.. look under and saw that the adapter had wedged itself around the tire as I started to drive away.
It took a crow bar to un-wedge the adapter from the tire

I will also figure out some other way to use the "non-permanent-mount" adapter with my bike, maby chain it to the lift or something

I was lucky.  I was backing my I/S out of the carport and heard it scrap on the cement.  Cranked it up and pulled back in so I could take it off.  Glad no one was around but since everyone is admitting to this I might as well.  BF, you know where to get that T shirt?   Wink

Yes and no.  I have been chasing it for a while.  Replaced all hoses and caps.  Did exhaust gaskets and re-torque, and tightened all carb boots at all three points.  So this was a grasp to see if leak was elsewhere (used fx6 desmog stuff).  It definitely lessened it a lot, so some of it was pair/reed related, but it still burbles with an occasional pop (I want all popping stopped).  So air is still getting in somewhere.   It runs great, pulls very hard from zero all the way to redline, no hesitation, it is getting good mileage, just the decel pop once it falls below 2k.

I can stop it by adjusting the pilots to be rich, but I'd rather not.  I'd rather solve it instead, it didn't always do this.  I have a new set of pilots and o-rings for them coming, maybe some of the pilot o-rings are bad and letting air in there.  I'm also wondering if my intake o-rings are letting air past, but they are redeye's.  I replaced them only two years ago and they look very good, so that is why I haven't fingered them as a possible yet.

Anyway, I'll let you know what I find when I finally nail the cause.

Did some work on a bike for a friend and he road from here in CT to Quincy MA and when he pulled into his trailer that he uses as a garage, it hit the edge and ripped up the trailer floor.  Oh so glad it was that and it did not fall off.

Mine I had on my bike and rode to work and I usually hit the ton for a second or two just because and when I got to work and looked down and saw it bolted to the motor I almost threw up.

I never forget it anymore.

So, where do we get those t-shirts? XXL please...  crazy2

Making a 2-3 mile run to test something I had tweaked one day, and heard one of the "L" bolts fall off going down the road. Pulled into a parking lot and the adapter had turned just enough to hold itself long enough for me to stop. Bungied it on the back seat and headed home!

BTW: my "incident" left me short one L-bolt... I used a foundation bolt
and a bunch of washers once, and my buddy Dan's L-bolts a few times,
but I'd like another nice-fitting L-bolt...

Mine stays on all the time - I like that...

Plus, all this makes me wonder - everyone tells me to get a Pingle, and always remember to shut it off. Yet there are people, that can't remember a big ol' chunk of RED steel, hanging from the bike, that THEY put on, to begin with??!??
