Nettle root demonstrates its superiority over frontline drugs for prostate enlargement <http://www.naturalnews.com/032953_nettle_root_prostate_health.html>
A comprehensive review of the randomized controlled trials (RCTs) show that when nettle root extract (NRE) is compared head-to-head with the standard drugs used to treat benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH), NRE is as or more effective, while...

FYI,
other studies have proven that higher testerone levels keep the prostate healthly. lifting weights 3 sets of 10 raise it the most. restricting calories or fasting one day and then eating normal the next day doubles the levels. proper fat intake EFAs, coconut oil, lighly cooked eggs whereas yoke is liquid also helps. body makes testerone from cholesterol, get off the drugs that lower it.

Thanks for the info!  cooldude

Good stuff to know. Theoretically, at least, in my case. I really should have it checked, but, I have this really cute female doc. Physical after physical, I take a pass on the finger. We'd have to be in a liplock for me to let her probe me. She won't refer me to a blind ol' fart doctor just for that.

Even more interesting is the angle on cholestorol meds! My doc had me on some and I quietly stopped taking them.
I was using Crestor (it may be called something else in USA, but if not, here's the obligatory text: may cause diarrhea, blindness, impotence, divorce, loss of brain cells, vomiting, dizziness, stupidity, clap, near vision and far vision, sudden ability to converse in Mandarin. If you die from taking this drug, do not drive but contact your physician before rigor mortis sets in.)

I was getting severe back pains, knee pain and such. Did some research about soft tissue impact of the drug and I wasn't the only one with such immobilizing pain.

This bit about testosteron just gives me more ammo should the good Doc find out that I quit them.

Thanks!

I just had routine blood work done. Cholesterol is 156 with all the rest falling in the same 'good' area.  Bran, pistachios, exercise, and lifting weights all seem to help. No problems peeing at 83 unless I wait too long.
Now if only the arthritis, cataracts, and the diverticuloses would go away I would be like a 70 year old. cooldude

I googled up an abstract from a scientific journal, I don't understand all this stuff,
but I think they agree  Smiley

In the present study the activity of a 20 % methanolic extract of stinging nettle roots (Urtica dioica L., Urticaceae) on the proliferative activity of human prostatic epithelial (LNCaP) and stromal (hPCPs) cells was evaluated using a colorimetric assay. A concentration-dependent and significant (p < 0.05) antiproliferative effect of the extract was observed only on LNCaP cells during 7 days, whereas stromal cell growth remained unaltered. The inhibition was time-dependent with the maximum of growth reduction (30 %) at a concentration of 1.0E-6 mg/ml on day 5 compared to the untreated control. On day 4 and 6, the reduction in proliferation of LNCaP cells showed the minimal effective dose at 1.0E-9 mg/ml. No cytotoxic effect of ME-20 on cell proliferation was observed. The antiproliferative effect of ME-20 of stinging nettle roots observed both in an in vivo model and in an in vitro system clearly indicates a biologically relevant effect of compounds present in the extract.
