Will IS pipes work on a Std? Do the tips interchange, in other words if I traded a set of Std pipes for a set of IS pipes should the person I'm trading with and I keep our own tips? Are there any other problems with using IS pipes on a Std? Thanks.

The pipes will fit. The tips will not interchange unless you cut off the piggies. The IS piggies are horizontal and the STD ones are vertical

Which is interesting considering the Tourer didn't require different pipes and has the same hard bags. Marty Interstate piggies are longer, thus necessitating their horizontal arrangement in order to provide clearance where the rear of the bags step down slightly. IMHO the longer pipes on the Interstate are intended to move the exhaust exit rearward to quiet the exhaust note as perceived by the rider. There are slight differences in the bags, one being the lack of a seam running down the rear of the Interstate bags. |

I also wonder if it's longer, to get the exhaust out past the trunk, on the Interstate - the trunk might have a tendency to draw (suck?) the exhaust back towards the front, on a shorter exhaust.
I'm curious, though - I'm looking for a set of Interstate tips, to put them on my standard. I know they are 4" longer, and it looks like it's at the front, where it's longer. Might that be enough, to clear the stock piggies on the Standard? I've stood alongside mine, and tried to picture it, and it looks like it would go on, without interfering with the piggies. But, not having a set, I can't be sure.
Still looking for a set!

IS pipes (tips) are longer than std. or tourer. rearanging the piggies is serious hard work. IS tips will not work on std./tourer pipes with stock piggies. Am not sure if the mounting holes for the tips line up the same. The vertical piggies on std/tourer will not allow the IS tips to fit unless they are cut shorter. My black tourer pic shows IS pipes. I like the look of the extra length. |

You can cut the piggies a bit shorter and turn the slash extension horizontal for a different look.
Drill new holes for the extension and sheet metal screw the thing on. It doesn't see any vibration so there won't be a problem.
