Then it's HILARIOUS!

"I fell on it" said Alex. "Oh really ?" I replied........ so where did the black-eye and the other bumps and bruises come from?  Somehow the story of "playing" in the backyard wasn't adding up. There was Alex with a swollen hand, a black eye (Sam got in one good punch) and numerous bruises. Sam had a black eye, scratches on his neck and a swollen nose. They finally fessed up that they had gotten bored so they decided to have a "fun fight". Alex punched Sam in the head and broke his hand. He's scheduled for surgery tomorrow morning to have pins put in. He'll be in a cast for 4 weeks..... that doesn't sound FUN to me.

it must be a guy thing.
Nope the cast doesn't sound like fun. I've been there (because of a moped wreck in the woods when I was young oddly enough) but I'm sure the boys weren't thinking about that when they started. They just wanted to knock each other over a few times.

Maris... In about 20 years you are going to hear the rest of the story... I was the oldest of five children... 4 boys and 1 girl... All four of us boys were crammed into one bedroom while the princess had her own bedroom... Hah! I still pick on her about being the princess... she never got a spanking, all she had to do was turn on the waterworks and my parents would pet her and send her to her room, but I digress!

My brother just younger than I am (Dean) and I were close, you rarely saw one of us without the other one in tow. We did EVERYTHING together and are still close to this day. Well one summer brother Dean got an acceleration in growth and well overtook my massive 100 pound frame by a good 20 pounds. I (being the oldest) used to abuse Dean in various ways for my own amusement... it went on for years and years... my Mom always told me, one of these days Dean is going to "hurt" you, which I always found very comical... and laughed it off. Well we were "out back" where kids of my generation were sent when we were out of school for the summer and had misbehaved in other areas of our home. This was fine with both of us and we could ALWAYS find something to do... we'd play baseball, football, run footraces, bounce a ball off of the top of the house and just basically anything to pass the time and keep ourselves amused. When we'd gotten all of the mileage out of those things, sometimes we'd wrestle, which most times got "out of hand", as my Dad would put it.

Well, one day we were wrestling around and brother Dean got angry and ran at me and tackled me and I rolled us both over and was sitting on top of him, threatening to spit in his face... holding him down. He was mad, he was crying and he was yelling "get OFF of me!", again I just laughed... asking him what he was going to do? This went on until I was almost ready to let him up, it was getting harder and harder to hold him down anyway, since he was now bigger than I was.

I found this whole thing really funny, so I let him agonize a little longer.... My arms were spread wide holding him down as best as I could as he struggled to be set free.... About that time... He "head butted" me as hard as he could right in the center of my chest, which I would later find out had cracked my sternum from the bottom almost to the top. I was both hurt and shocked and couldn't catch a breath to save my life. I guess he could tell by the look in my eyes that I was hurt and probably by the way I just oozed off of him onto my back. Every time I would attempt to take a deep breath there would be tremendous pain.... I'm talking pain like this 12 year old kid had never felt.

After a few apologies between Dean and myself, I swear I didn't know he was that angry (yeah right) or that he had the physical prowess to cause that much destruction to me... the older brother... that ain't right... After a little of this, Dean took off to get our Mother, who just also happened to be a RN... she could NOT stop laughing... so then I was getting mad... maybe crying a little.... telling her that I needed to go to the doctor... all my Mama said is that "I told you this would happen" so after a very short interval of getting no compassion from my Mama, I jumped up and walked very gingerly inside the house.

After Mama had composed herself, she came in and tied me up with an Ace bandage and told me that I would need to take it easy for a few weeks... A FEW WEEKS????? IT'S SUMMER! Again she laughed... My Mom and Dad really had a great time for a few weeks razzing me over those events... Needless to say, I never held brother Dean down anymore and we are still very close. I couldn't have a better brother on this earth... My Papa said... "Boys will be boys". This too shall pass... Those two of yours are fine young men and you can tell that they are close. You and Roger are doing a fine job with those two!

Here is brother Dean, he is always "there" for me and I am always "there" for him. He's agood guy even if he does ride a Harley!
heh heh

That is a good story! I guess we all have a childhood memory...... I have a few my mom still doesn't know.... and never will!

Alex did fine in surgery this morning. He's konked out on the couch. No skateboarding, karate, dirt biking etc for 6 weeks! OUCH! He'll be fine. Sam sure likes this story though!

It brings to mind the old tale about "mess with the bull and you will get the horn"....

I'm glad your big boy made it through surgery okay and he'll be back kicking high before you know it.

I guess that's all just a part of growing up! Best of luck to Alex and caution Sam not to get too cocky with that story because Alex will be well soon!
