I'll trade with you!!!!!

Although Virginia is a beautiful state with great people, I really can't stand the heat any more! I dread each summer and I always favored the cold weather since I was a kid! At least when it's cold, I can always put another layer of clothing on. They say as you get older you look for warmer weather. Well, I seem to be in reverse. My Valk trike only gets out during the colder months. If finances allow, in a few years I'm moving as far North as I can.

I'm with MH. I've been looking into possibly moving to Savannah or Charleston at some point in the future. I love my New England home and I don't really want to uproot my kids but I just f**king HATE winter now.

Believe me I know I'm in the minority when it comes to loving the cold and hating the heat. Too bad life is so complicated that we can't just trade locations.

You know it's not so much even the cold and snow that gets to me but the short days. By the middle of December it's dark when you go to work and dark when you head home. I really hate that.

+1 on hating the heat.  My Valk gets parked during the summer.  Winter is riding time here in this part of Florida.   cooldude

In all honesty, it gets just as dark here in VA during the winter. I can fully appreciate your feelings and choice of weather. I really can. I must have been born under some spell. I like the cold and don't mind the short days at all. LOL.

Yeah but if it weren't cold AND dark I think I'd deal with it better.

You might look around. I know that northern Minnesota (around International Falls) had a homestead program going a few years ago. I've heard there are others. Live there for 10 years and the land/house/buildings are free. Try a Google search. Property prices are VERY low up around there.

From what I remember regarding homesteading, you have to make the land produce something within the 10 year time span. Farming, horse ranch, ect.. I'm nor sure I'll still be around in 10 years.  Shocked Wink

I can see myself when I retire becoming a 'snowbird'.  Six months in Canada for the summer and six months in the southern states for the winter.  The older I get the more I hate winter as well.

Not with their program. They had several hundred properties. Some were just land, but a lot of them had nice houses, improvements, etc. They were trying to increase the population in the area since so many had moved south. You could buy the property at any time during the 10 years for that year's price. The price was divided by 10 and 1/10 of the price dropped off every year. After 10-free.

Vermont is better. Less cops and it's just as small.

It is hot here in Knoxville in the summer 105 yesterday with the humidity.  And it gets really cold in the winter too.  But I ride all year, hot or cold.  You only go around one time on this planet.  I don't mind sweating and I wear Gerbings in the winter.

I rode through Maine last summer and spent one night camping at Bentley's Saloon. I wish there more places like this that caters to bikers.

Dubs, I liked Knoxville when I lived there (74-75) at the Deaf School, but during the winter I went 21 days straight without seeing the sun(weather was crappy the whole time). I moved back to Texas that spring. coolsmiley

Indeed. For a couple of dirty hippies they make good ice cream.

Now see, driving in snow is something I DO enjoy. Not only the challenge but it can be fun.
