What is the length of the OEM rear shocks on a standard Valk?  I am thinking of replacing with Progressive 440's and would like to add an inch to make it a little taller.  What length 440's what you recommend?   Thanks

13" is stock.  Can't comment on what size 440s you should get.  Have I/S shocks on my Tourer and air shocks on my I/S.

If you want stock height in the 440's order 12 1/2. I have 13" on mine and they raised the height 1/2".

That's what I've always read, but right before I ordered my new 440s last week, I asked the Progressive Tech Support guy about that.  His response was that the proper adjustment of the pre-load will have the bike sag 1/4 to 1/2 inch once you sit on the bike.  I ordered 13" and they go on the bike tomorrow or Friday.  We'll see.  My oem shocks with 42,XXX miles on them are 12.5" from eye to eye with the bike basically unloaded, but they sag quite a bit under load and wallow even worse when pushed through a turn on uneven pavement.  I'm going to try what the guy recommended and if I don't like it, soften them up some more (if there's any softening left to do).

My Tourer wandered through turns also.  I put Gary's poly shock bushings in the upper shock eyes and that went away.

I think that you would not find a shock taller than the stock 13."

If so, for your wants I would buy 13" shocks and keep them at their tallest setting.

I thought it was the shocks too, I was wrong. Installed Gary's bushings a little while back and the bike tracks like a cruise missile now. I would have never thought that something so relatively small could make such a big difference but it does. Oh lawd it does!

I'm sure I could also benefit by replacing the tired stockers and it's on my to-do list but it's gonna wait until this winter along with some other mods I've got planned.

If you can Anvil, find a set of relatively low mileage I/S shocks.  I bought mine for around $65.

I have a set of 14" Progressive Shocks at the house that will not fit my IS.  Th swing arm does not move far enough out of the way to put them on.  They are the air shocks...came off of a 1200 wing...if memory serves me right. 

If you are interested in them...let me know...I will make you a deal...but they do come with a warning.  They have new tubing and bushings.

I have the 13" 440's on my interstate. Just remember when its on the sidestand, the bike leans over quite a bit more. When you go to park it, make sure the grade is higher on the left side of the bike.
