Which aftermarket oil filter is available for the Valkyrie that is the original diameter?  I have a Rivco oil filter cover that I would like to continue to use, but when they made the OEM switch I know the new filters are a little smaller in diameter.  If there are multiple choices which one and which part number is the best?

Thanks, Scooby

Well since this was discussed to death a few years ago, I saved this one from 98valk, pretty much wraps it up, I have a stock of the WalMart filters for mine. I think that ther numbers are still good. There is also the Purolater Pure One Part # PL14610.

After some research I have come up with the following filters that fit GL1500 bikes and possibly GL1800.

Wal-Mart ST filters are made by Champion Labs who also make STP, Bosch and Mobil-1 filters.
ST6607 52 sq in of media. same size as OEM
ST7317 62 sq in media same dia 1/2 longer then OEM
ST3593A (160 sq in? not confirmed) larger dia but shorter than ST3717
all of the above have the required 8-11 psi by-pass valve.

This site has cut opened 6607 and 7317 filters

This site has a cut opened ST3593A and is a cross reference with the honda/toyo filter from the oildrop site.

It looks like the 3593 is the best for filter area and flow. Cost is $2 at Wal-Mart.
wix 51287 for porsche 911 H6, 924, 944 and 968 L4 for emergency use only since this filter has a 27-33 psi by-pass filter, it is 4.8 in long. A wix 51285 for porsche 928 v8 and 911 H6 is 5.8 in long by-pass pressure 30 psi
All of the above have a 20x1.5MM thd size.

A ST3950 or Fram PH3950 has correct thd but is to large in dia and will not fit due to it hitting the water pump

I use the PureOne 14612 and it is the same diameter and length as the Oem and I use a filter cover and have no problems. If you look at the link you can see the differences and make a decision for yourself.
