Have you tried taking the controller apart and spraying tuner cleaner in there?  I had to do that last year because the volume control wasn't working like it should....you know, move the button up & down with no change in volume.

Another thought.  I believe if you follow the cable coming out of the control box, you can locate where it connects to the harness behind the left speaker panel.  There may be some corrosion in that plug.

The problem with that radio setup will almost always lie in the controller or the connecting plugs.

Before going to the dealer for a new one I would head to eBay or to an online salvage yard. There are a number of wrecked Interstates out there and the stock stereo assembly isn't all that high on most people's "gotta have!" list.

I really appreciate the help, i tried both of those with no luck, the bike stays in the dry and all the contacts looked new. I just can't believe it is the radio part, because you can't set the clock either. It really acts like it is the control box, but everything looks fine and I sprayed it, but it didn't change anything.  I'm thinking just putting an aftermarket J&M on it.

There is a large blue connector terminal within the fairing and behinf the LCD display. Corrosion on those terninals is the most likely cause of your audio volume issues.

Solution: disconnect, spray tuner cleaner onto both halves, reconnect-disconnect-reconnect-diconnect, spray more cleaner and repeat. Then apply dielectric grease to each of the terminals, reconnect and check for function.

You should be good to go!

Been there and done that. Let me guess. Do you see anything on your LCD when the radio is kaput? Likely not.
I have a good idea what the problem is because I had the same problem and fixed it. I can almost guarantee what the problem is because many IS if not all will have this problem sooner or later. You don't need a new radio. PM me and I'll send instructions complete with pictures for the fix.

This will explain what I'm talking about. The problem is in the connector.

Don't take it to the dealer. You can fix this yourself.

I have had similiar problems, but only after washing.  I cover the radio console, but after washing, the radio will cut out whenever the clutch lever is pulled in.  The LED display disappears when this happens.  When the clutch lever is released, the display, and radio, come back on.  After an hour of riding, the radio began to work fine again.  .

Any suggestions?

Yes I a have a suggestion....read my aforementioned post. Click on the link. One of the problems identified in the cluster of wires leading into the jumper block is the clutch switch. Countless Interstate owners have had similar problems. Why? Because the jumper block is exposed to moisture from the road and all the internal connection WILL over time corrode. Hence all the radio/ LCD problems. Same jumper block in every Interstate, same location, same problem. You can't fix the block. It has to be removed, wires spliced correctly, soldered, heat shrinked and taped up.
