Hello
I am looking at buying a 99 interstate with 50K. Transmission is shot. No idea what is wrong and I have to expect the worst. So what would be a reasonable price for this bike? I was thinking $1500-2500 range. I am sure a steeler would charge $3k to find and install. Please share your thoughts. Thank you. Oh this would be my 2nd interstate. My black 2000 I love!

Check Pinwall for a tranny.

Marty

ETA:  I just checked ebay and Pinwall has several tranny sets for sale.

The tranny is an integral part of the motor. Unless you want to split the cases and remove the tranny gears and replace, the easyest way would be to replace the whole unit. You can purchase the broken parts from Honda and replace, but, not sure of the amount of work involved. If you can get a fairly nice Interstate for 1500-2000, even if you replaced the motor/tranny, you would have a pretty inexpensive ride. cooldude

Looks like you don't know how to do a search.

Or the driveshaft splines or output shaft?  Maybe the output shaft would be considered part of the transmission?

Thank You all.
Marty relax. No I didnt have time to do that good of search. Thank you for doing the search for me though.
And Thunderbolt, yes that maybe something to look at  first thing, Maybe even a u-joint. I have no idea until I dig into it, Which if I get it I wont tear it apart till winter. I have alot of riding to do before the SN$#(^&%*^OW flys.
Thank You all.

I find it hard to believe a Valk trans is "shot". I fact I bet it's not. I fixed on with a bent shift fork, but NEVER heard of one that was "shot".

I'm with Jeff.. I've not heard of a bad/broken transmitter.. My thoughts were with a bad clutch, shift fork or u-joint/drive shaft..

I've missed a couple of gears at full throttle and never hurt a tranny.

I'd say it is clutch, u-joint, shift fork, but not tranny gears, them suckers are tough.

Have you seen the bike in action?    Heard the noise or results of putting it in gear and easing the clutch out?     Give the guy $2,500 to $3K and if it is the tranny, you could always part it out and retrieve your $$$$$ plus a little bit of change left over.

Could be as simple as driveshaft and coupler stripped. Less than a hundred bucks to repair.
