I have a chance to pick up a '91 Wing for under $2k due to a transmission problem. The general condition of the bike is quite good for one with a bit over 100k on the clock. For some reason the engine was rebuilt at 94k, but the trans. problem developed afterward. It runs fine, just has tranny trouble. With that amount of miles I'd probably just yank the engine and pick up one off Ebay and swap the entire thing out. I have no interest in splitting the case on a high mileage unit...rebuilt or not. I feel I could have a good running bike in great shape for well under $3k, just trying to consider all the pros and cons. It appears the unit would be worth in the $4500-5000 range, but that's not a given. I'm not interested in keeping it, just fixing it and selling a good running bike. Any thoughts/opinions are welcome. I need something to occupy me here at home since I can't travel. I might add....I'm getting some resistance to the idea of another project, but I can deal with that. As for the profit side, I'd be happy with enough to recoup my costs plus a little extra if possible.

....but still would like your tips on rear wheel removal.
Shoot me an email, should be on my profile. We can swap phone #'s and arrange a get-together. I'm in the general vicinity of SR436 & Aloma Ave.

John,  I am a big Wing fan and have restored two of them.  In February I bought a 76 wing and did a complete restoration.  It turned out great and I thought I would have no problem selling it.  I priced it at $2995.00 and thought that was a very fair price.  I have only had 2 calls and no offers.  I would suggest that if you want the project, go for it.  If you are hoping to make money, look elsewhere.  Not to mention that if you sell it, what representations are you going to make about the components that you did not touch.  I think buyers of vintage bikes want to know what they are buying and expect you to tell them.  In any case, good luck.

Mellow Yellow...

It is really too bad that the early GL's don't bring in the money or the interest.
I have owned five early ones and I loved them all...
 Lips Sealed Cheesy Lips Sealed

They are a great second bike to tinker with them.
Their challenge is always fine tuning carburetors and lots of exhaust leakage...
a very easy fix.
 Roll Eyes
Once well tuned they'll do well with frequent riding...
If they seat for weeks at a time, the carburetors become a nightmare.
 tickedoff

They are extremely cold blooded and smoke for 'bout one minute while warming up...
My neighbors down-wind love it when I get mine going.
 Cheesy

The '91 would be more reliable, but there are many w/low miles out there...
and no transmission problems.
Evil

Check eBay... lots of them!
