The Valk had an argument with a rabbit on the way to work the other morning. No real damage, front tire grabbed it. Drug it for a trip through the feender, and then spit it out. went to check the air pressure this morning before leaving to do errands and noticed the plastic thing for the valve stem is gone. ( Guess the rabbit got a souvenir). Anyone know if there is a metal version available, or at least a shiny version? And where to get it?TIA

Remember, that 'elbow' is there to keep the POS OE rubber valve stem from flexing to the point of cracking with traumatic deflation due to age, deterioration, and centrifugal force. Replace the elbow soonest, and replace the whole 2-piece OE stem with metal 90* stems at the next tire change.

I think OEM valve stems are dangerous even with the bracket. They crack at the worst possible place and time. Let all your air out at speed. Not good. Best to replace them with something solid all the way through. 90 degree bend makes it easy to air up. Here's what I use: http://patchboy.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=P&Product_Code=17-562&Category_Code=6-3

+1 on the metal stem. Until then, replace the plastic one. If you will send me your address I have an OEM in the plastic bag from Honda that I got before I changed to metal stems. No charge, I don't need it. It keeps the OEM stem from flexing especially at higher speeds and allowing air to escape.

Do you still use the plastic support with this type?

Do you still use the plastic support with this type? Don't need to use the support, but you could if you wanted it there "for looks" or if you didn't want to loose it or whatever... The patchboy-style stem is the way to go -Mike

I just put those patchboy stems on a new set of tires for my Goldwing and plan to do the same with my Tourer when it gets new tires this Fall. Are those metal stems reusable or do you change them out with each tire change?

The metals are lifetime (unless you damage one, unlikely).

Patchboy sells on ebay with $5 shipping unlike that outrageous shipping charge they have on their own site. Marty
