got up about 2 am the other day to take a whiz and grab a sip of water. No lights (lamps) on in the house. Walked from the bedroom, light on clock radio, light on fan, light on cell phone charger, & light on cable box. Through living room, light on cable box. Into kitchen, light on coffee pot, light on microwave clock, light on radio, light on stove clock. Now most of these are dim little led's to show what's on, but I could not believe all the lights. Wonder who else is not in the dark? Next, I'm gonna count clocks!

When I lived in a big old house with a bunch of other college students, I kept my cr250 in the living room. I wrote that on the wall above my bike with a sharpie... -Mike

It's the chargers, that are plugged in, with nothing attached, that are the major vampires. The single led saying power is available, has virtually zero current drain - you'd need to leave it on something like a gazillion years, to equal a days worth of regular incandescent 60 watt'er. The chargers, though, have the current making a field around the transformer, whether you are charging or not. But, it IS fairly eerie, when the lights are out - I used to come home nightly to a dark house, after midnight, and I could guide my way upstairs to bed, totally by the led's. I prefer the blue ones...

Your advantage. As you know the layout of your house it gives just enough light to see where the intruder is. They will be at a disadvantage. I told my kids to be real noisy when moving about at night. If they come in late, be loud. I'll sleep right through it. If they try not to disturb us they get to see me nekkid, which will leave mental scars and permanent issues.

That is true of the older transformer based chargers. Most recent chargers use switch-mode power supplies which are more efficient, and use a LOT less power when not charging.

The key word is "recent". There are STILL a lot of "old school" chargers out there. I walked around and found four just in the house - I have no idea how many I could find in the garage. That hair is well-split... R
