Alright finally went for a nice ride dr release to take it easy well I thought I would try atleast 100 mile run. Well the worste thing right know would be bike breaking down. well I am about 45 miles into it about to go around rotory and start heading home.I go to give her gas and she starts farting out right side i get her moving but not right as I am going my mind is racing wtf...   well she dies I pull over sit for awhile open fuel cap start her up and she sounds okay well off we go with cap open. Well I get about 20 more under my belt and again she starts running bad sounds like right side I push her hoping to make it (hoping not to do any internal damage) well she pops and dies 5 miles more to go get her to run take it real slow and make it home.  I have a big fan running in front of it running it between 2  and 2500 rpm and she keeps running.  I have a pingle on 3yrs I have a fuel disconnect 3yrs red eye.  fuel filter 3yrs but did repalce it this winter same type 98 standard sorry so long winded but cannot be walking distances or pushing the old girl   Be Good,  Matt

Anything happen before this ride that we should know about ?? Kinda sounds like a fuel delivery problem.. So, are you getting enough fuel thru the carburetors ?? Maybe an issue with the filter, disconnect or even a line thats kinking or collapsing..

Matt, several of us have had bad experiences with Red Eye's quick disconnect.  Found out the combination of it with a fuel filter caused a fuel starvation at highway speeds.  Happened around 20-25 miles.  Luckily I was on the way to a friend's house.  We went and got some fuel line and replaced it.  Didn't have a problem after.

Take out the quick disconnect and the extra fuel line and see what happens.  Mine was having vapor lock symptoms after I installed the quick disconnect.  After sitting in the sun for an hour, it would shut down a mile after startup.  After 3 times in one day, got home and took out the quick disconnect, put the original length hose back on directly to the petcock and no more problems.

I think the "quick disconnect" part is when you take it off quickly after finding out it causes problems.  IMHO.

I vote for that Quick Disconnect also, BUT, I have a buddy who has one and hasn't has an ounce of trouble.

Anyway that I know of.     He might have taken it out and not said anything.

I like the convenience of the quick disconnect, but I'll be pulling mine off this weekend after a couple of instances of problems.  Sad  Short trips and cooler temps everything is good, but the combination of interstate speeds and hot days have given me fits with a 'vapor lock' type of condition. I've popped the fuel cap and all, but as soon as she's cool, or I fill her up with fresh (cool) gas all is well.
